Broder did that on an earlier story in 2012, and NYT has widely covered those issues. Washington post analysis checked out the charge that Broder was anti-ev, and decided that he was not, but pro sensationalism. That was the reason torque news suggested also. Musk and plugin America have claimed he is anti-ev. The new York times has now weighed in and said he is just ignorant of how to use BEVs along with poor judgement. IMHO Musk and the NYT are both wrong and it was plain sensationalism.

I think this is social media in action. The NYT gets a story wrong. There are logs that prove it is wrong, and drivers that get together to do the same thing as the ill fated reporter. It's quite different than your preacher. The NYT published a story that made it sound hard to do a simple drive without calling a tow truck. It got facts wrong, and it was a reporter that ignored the meter that caused the tow. Pretty straightforward. The editor should have caught it before it went to press.

Most of those did use light. Here is the wording from the LA times publication of this correction was -
NYT editor: problems in precision, judgment not integrity of Tesla test - latimes.com

The driver blamed Tesla for not telling supposedly an energy expert that he should fully charge on a long drive. LA times called it obvious. Who would have thunk it? Fact is if Broder had a 10 year old in the car riding shot gun to tell him to charge the car the story might have been quite different.

Between rabid EV promoters and people with vested interests (think: stock) there is more than enough fuel to light an internet fire.

    *YAWN*

As for me, I don't think the 85 kwh Tesla is a suitable car for my winter driving if I have to rely on 200 miles between charges.

Agreed. Fortunately I don't need to make 200+ mile drives in my car, so I will continue to enjoy it:)

Actually, while the comments are many (heat being keystrokes-I'm guilty), the best possible actions were those that could make the journey did make the journey (enlightning).

It just turns out that the only EV capable of making those extremely long legs is an American car, so maybe some Americans might take notice. As far as I can tell an American Car company succeeding is an unwelcome event by both Fox News and the NYTimes. Apparently the political ramifications overshadow the technical progress. Go figure.

This, the sulivan partial retraction, the CNN drive, and blogs from tesla drivers have undone much of the damage the original Broder distortions, and Musk over reaction did.

It's certainly not the usual situation of the media reporting a corporation's dirty laundry, but the bizzare situation of a corporation reporting the media's dirty laundry.

These things have a way of evolving. Broder will not get any more EV evaluations. His work will be viewed with many eyees. The next lay off he will be among those let go due to down sizing. They will give him a glowing recomendation & 6 Months severence pay. That is the way it works.
