I received my hitch receiver last week, and expect my Prius to arrive within a week. I was reading through the hitch installation instructions and didn't see any info for tighening the bolts to a given torque spec. The major hitch makers always give a torque tightening spec. Anyone have a number they believe to be correct?

    Gordon,
I bought a hitch from Da'Lan (Now Curt MFG.) for my 2005. It looks like a similar installation. Here is a quote from the installation instructions they provided. Note they list 35 lb-ft (Seems low, but they're the manufacturer).

    1) Remove tow hooks. (Return to customer)
    2) Remove plastic under body facia on driver side.
    3) Lift hitch into position and secure with M10 bolts and conical washers as shown.
    4) Torque all M10 fasteners to 35 lb-ft.
    5) Enlarge tow hook slot on under body facia to fit around driver side plate as shown.
    6) Reinstall under body facia with existing hardware.
    NO DRILLING REQUIRED
    TRIM UNDER BODY FACIA

PERIODICALLY CHECK THIS RECEIVER HITCH TO INSURE THAT ALL FASTNERS
ARE TIGHT AND THAT ALL STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS ARE SOUND.

    narf,

    Many thanks!

Exactly what I was looking for. I had a Da'Lan hitch on my saab years ago - they make a nice well engineered product.
