I searched the forums today and didn't find any posts on anyone mentioning this. Has anyone checked it out or ordered it yet? I am aware of people complaining about their customer service. Does this still exist?

I hadn't heard of this being available for a 2006 until I saw your post. I just ordered one. Will post on how it works after it arrives. This could be between a week and never, depending on Coastal's stock supply. I have ordered several times from them and always had good service, so I am hoping to get it soon.

Just ordered mine. Finally! Now the Question is to either get an iPod with video or wait for the actual video iPod.

They're pretty quick with this, relatively speaking. The original was announced in February '05 (with a demo video dated November '04), but didn't ship until January '06.

I assume that you are all ordering the $300 option (ultimate lockpick 3).

I do not need video input... so it looks like I can get the basic model for $100, and it would unlock my NAV system on my '06. From what I understand... it would not unlock my phone.

It also looks like there is a "blue" model... but I am not sure if this works for '06 prius.

Please let us know if your installation causes any types of problems.

Well I ordered mine and hopefully lets see how this goes. I will let you guys know as well.

Jim, Why would you assume that we are all ordering the $300 one? I ordered the $229. My prius does not have bluetooth or NAV so I don't need the "Unblock Address Entry." I basically want the Video/Audio inputs and eventually add on the IPOD interface.

Has anyone ordered the $299 option? I am curious if it has the same effects as cutting the speed sensor wires for NAV and Bluetooth that messes up the mpg calculations on the consumption screen? I also wonder how they get the video feed without the "Check your surroundings for safety" message. How did they get the "DVD" voice command? I saw they just got the GVIF video input working with a few bugs to work out, but it looks like there's a lot of breakthrough lately on the '06 MFD. Lots of questions...

Are these kits one time use or can two friends share one? I know that's kind of a scummy question, but $300 to activate the address input (all I'm interested in) seems a bit steep.

My error. I saw a post regarding choosing the video device (video ipod). It completely slipped my mind that not all of us have NAV.

In my case... my priority would be:

    1) NAV override (high)
    2) Bluetooth override (medium)
    3) Video input (no interest)

It looks like #1 alone may be available for $100... and that all 3 are available for $300. I personally have no need for video... so I would prefer to not get #3.

Bluetooth dialing would be nice... but right now, I just use the keypad on the phone itself when I need to press numbers... I would prefer to not spend an extra $200 just for that feature.

    /Jim

    Greg,

I think that you can get the $99 option.

Since these are installed... I do not think that you can share them between more than one car

Assuming it's like the other Coastal products, it's a circuit you connect (either with plugs or "T" connectors), rather than a device that unlocks an option. This means each Prius would have to have one.

    Jim,
I guess the priorities do differ from others.
    Where I want:
    1) Video/Audio Inputs (high)
    2) Ipod (Medium)
    3) FM Text or maybe even MP3 text displayed while driving.

Why is video high for me?
i'm not always the one driving espeically on the weekends and time off and with these inputs I can:
    1) Watch DVD
    2) Hook up my video game consoles with wireless controllers for me and the kids ;)
    3) Hook up navigation since I dont have it from laptop or other source
    4) hook up Ipod interface
Even when I am driving my 45min-1hr drive, just as I glance at the Battery/MPG levels I can glance and listen to Sitcoms off DVD's or videos I have from my Media PC. 2 birds with one Stone

    Tom,

I am very interested to hear how this turns out... and I am looking forward to your report. Which model did you buy? Our cars seem to have the same electronics package (#7 and #8). Thanks in advance.

I went for the high price spread ($300), mostly on a whim. The $229 version is really all I need/want, but I figured I might as well spring for the video input for the extra $70.

    Tom,

I thought that both the $229 and $299 versions both had video. The extra $70 gets you the NAV override function... so that you can program destinations while you are driving. This is the feature that I want the most.

I am really interested to see if the NAV override feature messes with the fuel economy calculations or other functions.

Yeah, I see how it seems to say that. But all three say that they unlock addresses, then the $300 one says "ADDS THE ABILITY TO ENTER ADDRESSES AT ANY TIME ". So what is the other address unlock that all three have? I think there is an error somewhere in the descriptions. For some reason, the video "demo" gave me the impression that the video feature was in the highest end one. As I figured it was no big deal to go for the top one, I didn't really care.

The earlier version has NAV for the Lockpick, phone added for the the Blue, and video mentioned for the ultimate. I'm guessing a similar situation for the Locpick 3.

It may do that electronically, but maybe have a 30-second timer which switches you back. If it's for that short a time (or something like that) the 5-minute bars of the Consumption screen shouldn't be that messed up.

Wow, I would really love to get address unlocking, but can't afford to spare $300 at the moment -- especially not with the Holidays right around the corner. :-\

Wish there was a discount...not ballsy enough to clip those purple wires just yet.

    Tom,

The more I read this... I believe they have only 2 pieces of hardware:

    1) $99 device that goes under the front seat that only unlocks the NAV
    2) $229 device that (I speculate) goes behind the dash and unlocks bluetooth, and provides video

If you pay $299, then you get both of the above. I think that if you look at the $229 option... it does NOT unlock the NAV.

    /Jim
