@Tracksyde - Your fuelly MPG is really impressive. Are you able to pull EV all the time?

I live about 13 miles from work, with a net elevation drop of 600ft. So I make it to work in all EV with about 2-3 miles of EV left (avoiding the freeway is actually a shorter commute, same amount of time). Going home, the best I can do is about 11.5 miles of EV on a full charge. The main culprit is a stretch of road, with 4 stop lights, elevation gain, and a posted 50MPH speed limit (but if you're not driving 55+, you are an impediment).

So I have a good commute for the PiP.. almost use up my charge going to to work and I use up the whole charge going home. For comparison, there have been days when I forgot to charge or was unable to charge and my commute to work with no charge, I can get 70MPG (best was 72). Going home I get about 50MPG without a charge.

When I first got my PiP, I was driving it like a racecar. So my first 2 tanks were pretty bad, relatively speaking. Its been difficult to make up for those bad tanks even though my last 5 tanks have averaged 258MPG (first 4 tanks average is 125MPG).

I'll guess you drive at 50 mpg or 3.5 miles/kWh

If liquid fuel is $3.5 then it costs 7 cents a mile
At 17 cents a kWh, an electric mile costs 4.9 cents

So electric is about 2 cents a mile cheaper. Your savings per gallon calc seems off.

Yep! Same here, my first 6 tanks were about 45-65 mpg. All out of town, 450-500 mile trips Stuck with it for ever! Oh well! :)

My commute is 19 miles each way so I know I will be at least in HV mode by the time I get to the office. From what I've searched and read here it seems the best way to maximize my EV range is to EV it to the highway and switch to HV to warm up the ICE and use it to assist... Hopefully I'll still have enough EV range to switch back to EV for the final 3 miles of off highway travel... It will be really awesome if I can pull 80+ MPG

Dang. I hope my 2014 has that kind of value in 2 years. I'll have gotten a free car for 2 years (plus insurance/tax/fuel/etc).

When I purchased the car in January I had a 30+ mile commute on HOV freeways. A job came up unexpectedly and now I have a 3 mile commute. I plan on biking to work the majority of the time. The PiP is amazing but it's a bit overkill for my situation.

Just picked up the car at lunch and boy I miss MPG charts like this...

@usbseawolf2000 my commute is about 19 miles each way. With about 10 miles worth of highway in between so I am going to try HV the highway portion and see what MPG I can truly pull. I really got a blessed benefit of charging at work, so I can't wait to see how long this tank last me.

Just finished my first morning commute in full charge. I had about 2 miles local, 5 miles highway traffic in EV mode, then about 10 miles clear run in HV, then I still have 2.9 miles EV range to finish the last 3 local miles in EV mode. Automatic reported 124MPG. I'm sure I can refine my driving style to up my MPG more without causing annoyance to the other road users, but boy that was satisfying!
