Doesn't matter. I think @ETC(SS) called it, that's the birth of the $1,350 delivery charge smoldering away

Nearly ALL Cars, most particularly up-scale cars ALREADY have a four-digit delivery charge. ;)
Most and Least Expensive Car Destination Charges - Consumer Reports

I think you're missing the point.

Ask any mariner....and if they've spent more time at sea than it takes to complete a Carnival Cruise or two then they will (or SHOULD) say that the most dangerous thing you can encounter at sea is a shipboard fire.
Insurance companies do not like paying off shipping losses....most especially SHIPs, because they're sorta expensive and Maritime Salvage is a wonderful world of legal magic....ALL ITS OWN.

    So...
Car Carriers have a very robust firefighting capability because cars loaded with fuel are a fairly volatile thing to tote around.
    HOWEVER (comma!)
BEVs and PHEVs represent a somewhat different fire threat, whether they are the source or a fuel.

    SPOILER ALERT!
It "may" be "determined" that a BEV started the fire outright....because if the last 3 years have taught us ANYTHING it is that "experts" can be bought and sold just like any other commodity, and insurance companies are going to look for an easy target to shake down for the loss. BEVs already have something of a reputation with fire, and political correctness will only buy a limited amount of immunity.
Either way this turns out, a ship-load of BEVs will have to be handled somewhat differently than a shipload of what EVangelists refer to as "gassers."

    Yeah....
    I know.
"Gassers" are volatile too....but those lessons have already been learned and applied to shipping, as witnessed by the fact that you really do not hear about ship loads of gassers burning on the high seas, and when fires DO get started they get put out fairly quickly before a hull-loss incident occurs.
Mariners are fairly good at this because a maritime 'wessel' is the mother of all 'gassers.'
    AND....remember....
Virtually every Li-Ion battery is transported by...............(wait for it!)...........a 'gasser.'
This earth-killing practice will continue until BEV tech evolves to include airliners and ships.

    Until then?
"Gassers" and BEVs will have to learn to play well together for just a little bit longer.....

    ...or?
EXPENSIVE lessons are still hull-down on the horizon. ;)

you would think they would have known how to, and have the equipment to extinguish lithium fires.

we are fortunate to have a domestic ev car company :)

Ya only need a few of them.... ;)

Safety equipment is nearly always bought with blood.
In this case, I'm thinking that the only bleeding will occur on the balance sheets.

    Once the fun gets started?
BEVs on fire are kinda hard to put out.
The mode used by most fire departments is to cool down nearby stuff and let the fire burn itself out.

That doesn't work all that well on a Ro-Ro.
    You CAN do it.
After all....we ship main battle tanks across the pond with them.

You just gotta PAY for some extra safety monitoring and (most expensively!) extra peeps to keep an eye on things.

THAT's what's going to drive up those delivery charges.

Concur....we even make our own home-grown batteries!

HOWEVER (comma!) Musk buys his lithium from..........................???? ;)

    He can't.
...and to be fair to him (that's TWO times JUST today!!!! )

    .....no POTUS can.
They can only do incredibly short-sighted stiff to exacerbate our ability to keep it as low as possible.

    YMMV...... ;)

Any 'salvage' now is from the ocean floor. It sank today, while being towed.

    Hmmmmm
    Juuuuust outside the Portugeese EEZ.

    Doesn't matter.
    Water is pretty deep there.
I doubt any serious salvage efforts will be under way anytime soon.
Not even when Lithium gets REEEEAL expensive.
