Compact Spare for Two Eco

    Can you folks pls report back with mpg stats for before and after adding a spare (plus jack, etc) to the Eco? Since we know that the spare delete was one of the bigger factors in the Eco's better mpg..

    And no I'm not forgetting the lead weighted rear wiper ;)

    Somebody mentioned the Toyota Jack. It's a incredible piece of junk. Requires enormous effort. It's strange that only Citroen had a built in Jack system.

    Agree. With a simple design change, at the connection to the turning rod, it would work a lot better. As it is it jumps around with every revolution . Also very soft casting, quickly gets chewed up.

    Yes I did. The lug pattern is 5x100. If your PIP has wheels larger than 15" it probably has a 5x114 pattern.

    The Eco comes with a jack. The 28lb spare has had no ill effects on MPG.

    If it's like third gen, 15" and 17" wheel patterns are identical, you can use either.

    AndyPrius1 said that his 2012 PIP has different pattern. The 16" Prius v has 5x114 according to another post I read.

    Just added 35 lbs .( full spare tire) with my Eco no ill effects with Mpg.

    Oh ok. I didnt realize the Eco would have came with a jack when it doesn't have a spare? But ok now I know. And that's surprising but Good I guess that there are no percieved mpg loss when adding the 28-35 lb spares :)

    I wonder at what point does the weight gain start affecting mpg?... Let's say you now add a rear wiper, that now only leaves you with slightly overinflated tires and a slightly lighter Li Ion battery compared to a two...

    So in essence a three at right around 27k msrp might be a solid choice for someone wanting a Li Ion battery, a spare and a rear wiper.... Pump up your tires slightly for mpg gains like an Eco plus you now also have 3 door sks and Nav, xm, etc at a very minimal mpg hit?? I can't decide. lol. Too many options...

    There are several threads in the Gen 4 Prius Fuel Economy Forum that suggest that there is a very small difference in MPG between the Two Eco and the other non Touring models. As long as you don't go for the 17" wheels, you should be fine.

    My Peugeot had a terrific Jack.I'm using a 12 volt electric Jack now, I just push a button and up it goes.

    Nice job on the mod!

    One question though, the donut spare for thre 2016 is supposed to be a T125/70D17. (I went and opened up a 2016 with a donut) in it. All I found on dbay is a listing for a T125/80R16. Wanted to get the correct one , bur avoid the cost of a new one from the dealer. any one have a source/? thc

    Mine is a T135/70R16 from a Toyota Matrix via Craigslist. As long as it has the proper 5x100 lug pattern, and the wheel diameter is close, it should not be a problem. If it came off of a Gen 2 or 3 Prius, or a late model Corolla or Matrix, it should be compatible.

    Thinking of removing my spare from my 2009 Touring Four and use it in my 2016 Touring Four. Any issues with doing this/lug pattern the same?

    Outside diameter of the 09 is a little less? I believe the temp spares closely match OEM tire outside diameter.

    Most likely will pull it before I trade it next month. If they complain I will put a can of spare tire in the trunk.
