confirmed overfill damage

    That's enough for some people.

    If the car "pushed" fuel back out the filler, then that suggests you already had some type fault with the evaporative system venting.

    Normally, if you overfill the tank, it's "just really full". Pushing back out likely means that air inside the tank was pressurized during fill up (couldn't vent) and then expanded.
