I bought a replacement cabin air filter and ari cleaner filter from the local Toyota dealer, came home, looked them up online and saw there were OEM filters for sale for much less money.

The 17801-37021 Element Sub-Assy, Air Cleaner Filter was easy to find for less and was described as the filter for a 2013 Prius.

It was also easy to find the 87139-YZZ20 for less money, but when I looked it up, it did not say that model was for the Prius. It said it was for an older Toyota Tacoma.

Can someone please verify that 87139-YZZ20 is the correct part number for the 2013 Prius cabin air filter, or (if it is not correct) please tell me what the correct air filter part number is?

    thank you!

is the part number on the box you got from toyota? how much did you pay for the cabin filter? my local dealer wants $38. and i saw online for $27. i tried an aftermarket, and it was horrible. i see
    87139-YZZ08 and premium 87139-YZZ10. that's toyota.com i don't see a YZZ20, but the chart only goes back to 2006 on the tacoma.

The correct part # for the Prius is
87139-YZZ08 for the original one and the more heavier duty one (more expensive) part # 87139-YZZ10.

87139-YZZ08 is the number AutoNation list's on their website for the 2012 Prius.

87139-YZZ10 is the number for the Carbon Filled filter.

Thanks to everyone who wrote back. I was taking those numbers off the boxes, HOWEVER, I just looked at the receipt and it says I was sold an 87139-YZZ08
    [IMG]
    not what the box says:

So perhaps they didn't sell me the filter they thought they sent me (or these are interchangeable parts?)

ALSO - is the heavier duty one only used for people who drive in very dusty conditions, or is there some other benefit to people who drive in typical driving conditions?

Ok, assuming by "ari cleaner filter" you mean "engine air filter":

You have in hand, both air filters, the genuine Toyota filters? Which means you're set for 20,000~30,000 miles. But you're looking online, and finding you might be able to save $5~10 on your next filters? Or you're hoping to return the Toyota filters, keep looking online?

I'd just install the filters you've got.

Thank you for your reply. Sorry if some of what I posted was not clear enough to you.

In answer to your first question - "ari" was a typo and I hope you understand that not every one on this list is familiar with the exact terminology for parts.

And yes, I may end up returning the filters I bought from the dealer and buy them online for about $20 less.

I did a little more looking around, and, according to this site, which is apparently affiliated with Toyota of Dallas:
Genuine Toyota Cabin Pollen Air Filter 87139-YZZ20
the filter I was sold is for a 2013 Prius. The site states, "This replaces previous number 87139-YZZ08."

So I guess that clears things up for me. I have no idea if they have only changed the number or if the item itself has been changed (for better or worse).....

thanks again to everyone who wrote back!

Isn't there a charcoal air filter? I've read somewhere that the ones with Plasmacluster should get charcoal ones.

87139-YZZ10 is the number for the Carbon Filled filter.

If you have smokers in the car, the carbon filter will help to clean up the stale smoky air...

2010 to 2015 Prius are all Gen III, so the cabin filter's will interchange with one another. I suspect there might be a slight revision in the Z20 vs the Z08, but the filter should fit all of the Gen III Prius.

The posted invoice warns of a 20% handling fee on returns. Install the things, lol.

Let's not confuse the two types of filters - Engine or Cabin. These are for the 2010-2015 model years. The cabin air filter number below is for the non-carbon filter. The numbers may have changed since I grabbed these in 2010.

    Engine Air Filter 17801-37020
    Cabin Air Filter 87139-07010

When I got my cabin filter last year, there was 3 versions of it. One version was a plain filter - no charcoal. Then next step up was
a filter that had some charcoal in it. That was running about $25. The next step above that was a filter with LOTS of charcoal in it.
That filter was running about $60. The one that came with my car looked like it had more charcoal than the $25 one, but less than
the $60. I wrote down all the part numbers, but I don't know where that list is at the moment.

When I went in and just said I wanted a cabin filter, they gave me the non-charcoal one. I had to ask for the medium price filter.

It does indeed say that, but there was no problem returning them. No fee was charged.
