This threat is stupid and was a complete waste of my time.
All of us are now dumber for having read it. Or I was dumb to read past the first baiting post and through the whole pissing match it was destined to become.

EVERYONE is self centered, it is human nature. No polical position is selfless.
The enemy is OPEC, not each other.

    You are so correct.

I think libs think only women in America deserve rights - that it is ok for muslim women to be:
hidden behind cloth so only their eyes show
    cannot drive
    cannot vote
can be stoned to death if someones honor is broken
    should not be educated
    should be treated like cattle
    etc, etc.... why?

Tunnel vision is deadly, short-sighted, stupid.

    i agree with you totally.

i say the only difference at this point between libs and conservatives is the number of Americans they will allow to be murdered by Islamofascists:

    Convservatives the # is 3,000
    Liberals # is (choose one):
    100,000
    1,000,000
    10,000,000

they do have a number - to me and probably you this number is outrageous - and we wonder why it is not 3.000?

I think these are wrong questions to ask, in my opinion.

People simply do not often agree on what is right and wrong when it comes to personal choice. I may like blue houses and you may like yellow. I may like blondes and someone else may like redheads. I may like asparagus and someone else may like carrots.

By choosing to drive a less efficient vehicle, for example, someone is not consuming something that belongs to someone who wishes something to be conserved as that person does not own that "something"...

I may not like my neighbors clearing the trees between their house and mine as now I have less privacy, but I do not have a choice in the matter and so I can plant my own trees or build a fence. I may not like wasting gasoline but who am I to determine the meaning of "waste", especially when someone may only be able to afford a ten year old inneficient vehicle? I may not like guns but who am I to say someone else may not own one or shoot it (legally)? I may not like to see commercials about four hour erections on television but I am free to change the channel.

When we limit people's ability to make choices, we are in a sense eliminating a freedom. We will not agree on what we should limit and what we should allow.

There is no realistic dispute that smoking is bad for a person's health, that seatbelts save lives, that eating lots of fried food is bad for longevity, and that our vehicles contribute to global warming and we have a finite amount of fossil fuel.

There is little dispute that pennies add up to dollars and that the more we conserve the longer we will have our precious resources. There is little dispute that the better educated we become the more likely we will be able to overcome our environmental limitations.

As much as we are all generally born with brains, eyes and ears, as humans we still have a responsibility to care for those less fortunate.

I believe we should all do the best we can to preserve our planet and be responsible people. I also believe part of being responsible is using our abilities to make choices and the world would be a very boring place if we all made the same selections.

Just look at religious choices (without turning this into a religious debate)... We have Catholics, Lutherans, Mormans, Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Agnostics, Jews, Atheists, Krishnas, Baptists, Pentacostals, and a host of others all generally believeing in what they choose, for whatever reasons. In terms of religion there is much disagreement about what to believe in and many who believe in religion are certain there will be benefits and consequences of belief/non-belief. Religion is actually the ultimate choice as for many it concerns eternity. Who would I be to decide that your choice of belief is wrong? Who would i be to determine that your belief is harmful to other people? Who would I be to determine that you cannot worship in the way you see fit?

People need to be able to make choices and as fellow Americans it is our responsibility to be respectful and accepting of those choices. Some of these selections we may not like or agree with but we need to preserve our ability to choose or we lose the essence of what our country stands for.

Given the choice when i was younger of heading to Vietnam or Canada (they changed the laws a couple of months before I turned 18), I would have gone to Canada. When 911 happened, if I had been young enough, I would have gone to fight for our country. I now think we should withdraw and allow the people of Iraq to find their own way as we allowed the Japanese to find their own way following WW2. I wish we could learn from our mistakes and our triumphs.

Conservative? Liberals? Hmmmmm. Treat people with respect, educate our children, support our neighbors, and encourage workfare not welfare, encourage peace yet support those who take up arms to protect us, encourage abstinence but realistically educate about birth control, encourage conservation and environmental friendly practices but keep an open mind to allow our corporations to remain profitable.

Allow people choices. Help people when they make mistakes but do not enable harmful behavior.

Lets put some intelligent, thoughtful, ethical people into political office for a change. Lets encourage all people to be equals. Lets take care of the people who need it but instead of feeding them fish let's teach them how to fish. I envision helping us all become more responsible for ourselves and if part of that means driving a Prius to work, a bike for fun, recycling our refuse, eating healthy, and exercising then that is a good thing (in my opinion), but allow me to keep my shotgun, make a few passes at the drag strip, and have a few beers on the weekend along with a nice cigar without taking heat from the PC police. :)

I agree with you, and this kind of selfishness by conservatives needs to end... As ABC's John Stossel points out...

    http://newsbusters.org/node/9323

It's only 30% more that these selfish, self centered bastages are giving away than their liberal and you know they all do it so THEY can have the article say that it is THEY who give more. You can't be more self centered than going to all that trouble to get the minute in the sun.

To further prove how selfish conservatives are, we continue:

All I have to say, is that I am OUTRAGED that conservatives give more blood than liberals. Who do they think they are to want to save the life of someone they don't even know. It's PURE SELFISHNESS to want to have your blood walking around in another person and I think that motive is an outrage!

I think this generousity is rooted in hate.

And bombs and bullets are the way to change cultures that have been living that way for thousands of years?

Pinto, my friend, you should know better than a topic like this. Self-centerdness knows no bounds, allows no reflection, and has unlimited excuses. Like babies who are born with their own personalities, either you 'get it' and live your life accordingly or you don't 'get it', can't fathom what the point is and will die being part of the problem. We can only hope that upon reincarnation, those who don't get it will the next time round. This leaves us, who are more universal in our outlook, to carry the torch for the rest of the heathens.

What do you suggest we do? Ask the Taliban and Al Qadea over for cup of tea and cookies so we can discuss politics? They are our enemy they want to kill us. What do you think that somebody like Nacy Pelosi is going to go over there and open her arms up for a hug and they are going to lay down their arms? They raise their CHILDREN to kill Americans. They have 10 year old boys cutting off our heads over there but you think all of the sudden they are going to be willing to just talk things out?

This is a war people. War is ugly. War and revolution is how our Country was founded. War is what kept the Germans from occupying our country. War unfortunatley is some times necessary to protect what is ours and to protect those that are innocent. Wars have been going on for thousands of years. This is not the first and it won't be the last.

To me it is stupid to think they are going to stop plotting to kill us, to stop killing the innocent people of their own country.

I know it is hard to think outside of your bubble since the war does not affect your daily way of life outside of gas prices. I would bet my life though that if the Al Qeda or the Taliban got on American soil and was threatening your family wanting to take their lives, destroy your home, your way of life, that you wouldn't mind our Soliders and Marines taking up arms against them. Or would you rather have good old Nacy helping you?

I'm just going to start by addressing the OP because the name calling quagmire has gotten a bit dense to wade through in one post.

I know many fundamentally good people who are 'conservative' and seem to act in a self centered way regarding many aspects of their life. I'm pretty sure that at the core they're not self centered (very generous to their friends, help out at soup kitchens and other volunteer work, extremely nice people to everyone they meet including strangers). Because they're conservatives they deal with the world like this:

The world is what the world is. This being the case, how can I make the best life for myself and my loved ones given the way the world is?

It's the world they grew up in, more or less, and they don't want it to change because that might impact the safe and loving niche that they've painstakingly carved out for themselves and their loved ones. If they didn't promote the status quo way past the point when it was wise would we still be able to call them 'conservatives'?

Not everyone wakes up in the morning and thinks: This is how the world ought to be, what can I do to make it more like that? This is more the liberal way of dealing with the world and willingness to make yourself and your loved ones less prosperous and happy for the greater good quite frankly requires a very different concept of empathy.

Before getting labeled from one post I'd like to throw in that I don't align with any major party line and subcribe to issue based voting. I just get tagged as a 'liberal' a lot because presently there is much more offensive 'conservative' activity going on in the US right now than offensive 'liberal' activity.

The beginnings of a proper long term solution would be starting to examine WHY they want to kill us.

The creation of future generations of folks who want to kill us by killing more of them hasn't historically worked as a solution. The only thing it does do with any certainty is ensure explosive growth in security and defense industries.

I look at the terror problem like I look at fire ants. Stomping on their bed only pisses them off and makes them spread out to other parts of the yard. They fight like hell, but they'll never give up. However, kill the queen and the mound dies with it. Address the reason for terrorists wanting to kill us and they'll stop. There are no, and never have been, any good short term solutions to this problem. It will take years and years using lots of resources, both human and political to eventually quell the fanatics.

I'm not naive enough to believe that this isn't war. It is a different war than we've ever fought before and while bombs and bullets may buy us time, it will never make them go away. They're fire ants.

You don't know my daily life. You don't know me. I didn't insult you, but I do have a different idea of what will work than you. You hit the nail on the head. They teach their children to hate us. How many of those children for how many generations will we have to kill to solve the problem? The only way to stop them is to change there way of thinking about us.

I actually believe you are right on this.

If we examine what they want and give it to them, they will stop killing us.

What do you think they want? By suggesting what you said above, you either don't know, or you're just putting it out there like that in some fantasy laden idealism statement of 'everyone getting along' that has no chance at reality.

They want you and me and everyone on the earth to convert to being muslim, worship allah and live under islamic law. If we all do that, they will absolutely stop killing us and trying to squelch out our freedom... in fact, there would be no freedom left to squelch if our solution was to require everyone to be muslim. apparently beyond that, we'd all have to become the right kind of muslims because all over the world muslims are killing muslims because each flavor of them thinks the other flavor is the infidel, so we need to get very specific about which type we mandate (not by law, but by torture and death).

So, where do we start? Constitutional amendment that everyone be run into a stadium and either killed or forced to signed video taped conversions to islam? Do we use the same amendment to extinguish our current constitution and place in islamic law as our governence. Then, do we require all able bodied men in our newly converted land to strap on bombs and head to canada to force them to convert to islam?

What an idiot... you and everyone else that wants to 'examine why they want to kill us'.

"They want you and me and everyone on the earth to convert to being muslim, worship allah and live under islamic law. If we all do that, they will absolutely stop killing us"

    I don't buy it.
They justify their actions by this (Via misinterpretation of the Koran) but is not the underlying reason they attack us. By that theory, they'd be killing people all over the world and view the US in the same light as every other country. They DON'T. They view the US (and isreal) as satan, as that is what their religious "leaders" tell them. They have political ambitions that go beyond religion, but just like in the US, people hide behind religion. IE: tha Ahole athlete that praises god for every hit, TD, etc.
They want to kill all American's for being non-muslim, just like the US wants to kill all of them for 9-11. Sorry, only extremists look at it that way. Like bigmamasynch.
