Considering a GEN2 for kid's car.

    There are always exceptions, but Dealer sales for this category and price range will be an "as-is" purchase just like a Private sale. The biggest difference is the Dealers cost more for the same exact vehicle.

    Current candidate: Used 2007 Toyota Prius For Sale in Mason City, IA | Hosmer Auto

    Looks decent, good service records (carfax), and price is in the ballpark of carfax calculated value and kbb. High-ish miles though...and four previous owners..although it started as a lease vehicle and then was sold as certified used. Not sure why the dealer has "one owner" listed...

    Looks nice. I contacted the owner but we are in sunny Minnesota so the distance is too far for a 1 way road trip.

    Oh my..I'm now looking at a Prius V ( the station wagon model ) :

    Used Cars Mason City, IA - Pre-Owned Toyota Cars & Trucks

    Edit : I'm paying cash, etc...so they offered $8500 if they can get it done by the 'end of the month'. Sounds good as their web site price is $9800. I think i am gonna go for it.

    This 'fun' never ends!

    Cool!
    Be aware the Prius v had a redesign for 2015 to improve IIHS safety crash test results. (My son has a 2015 Prius v)
    The Prius v is a nice car, especially with the larger cargo space. The economy is lower than the Liftback, though due to the additional weight.

    Looks like I'm close to going with the Prius v (see above for link).....visiting the dealer tomorrow.

    I know the Prius v has lower fuel economy. However, the space trade off looks reasonable. Plus, I'm sold on the HSD not just for MPG but also reliability.

    Well folks...I ended up with the $8500 2012 Prius v (wagon) as described above.

    it is in really nice shape. However, it shimmies a bit above 75MPH. Unfortunately, I did not notice that when I test drove it because I never got above 60MPH. Assuming/hoping it is a wheel balance thing.

    Really like the white color...apparently it was a 'premium' color option.

    It is time for me to head over to the Prius v (wagon) forums!
