Console organizer accessory

I ordered a light gray Carmate lower console organizer for my dark gray interior. I like the contrast as it perfectly matches the color scheme of the doors, center console and seats .

BTW - the little cup holders, they only fit the short stubby water bottle. If you put a standard 12oz bottle, it'll fly off the console on sharp turns. Just an FYI.

 

I thought there would be a small sliding tray inside the console so a phone could be put in there, but my 2012 doesn't have one. Anyone know where such a tray could be purchased? Any color would be fine since it would only be visible when the console box is opened.

I originally thought that color might be the tan, but upon asking I found out it is a light gray, which the listing says.

 

Ah my bad, should've read the description more thoroughly. It's sure priced higher than the other gray consoles listed.

 

2010 and 2011 models have it, but not 2012. You can buy that from dealer for $30 or so. I just "stole" mine from my buddy's 2011...

 

all in all, I wasn't so impressed by my tray for the $40 price tag. The foam insert in the main compartment is too small in width and length, and there's no padding at all in the cup holders. And the gray just doesn't go with anything in a bisque interior. Black would have been so much better. I'm going to Joanne's and buy some thin '3mm black foamie's sheets and make my own inserts. Perhaps it'll look better imo; if not, I'll plastic paint it black to match the interior accents.

That's always a good thing.

Just a tip for everybody: Don't leave anything in the tray/console overnight (maybe except for tissue or the like). My neighbor's car was broken into (broke the side window) a few months ago and all they took was a phone charger. Maybe try to keep everything out of sight.

Did you ever paint it black? Got any pics?

The console area on mine is black so I am apprehensive with buying the grey color being offered. Thinking about maybe purchasing and repainting to black.

 

I just can't picture in my mind painting it black and having lasting effects....if you put things in and out of it frequently. I've never seen anything painted that the paint wouldn't chip/crack/peel off of eventually. I still think it's crazy that they just made it in such a non-matching color for all the other colors besides gray interiors. I'll never understand that logic....

 

Good point. Guess I'll hold off for now....especially for the price, I should have to customize it in order for it to suit my taste/needs. Thanks for chiming in.

Anyone have pics of the console organizer installed with a black console area? I'm thinking it would look out of place but would like to be corrected if this is not the case.
