    This new thing in the Corolla in the Prius is an A engine like what's in the Camry it's no longer the ZZ It must be a d tuned A engine so the Camry engines 2.2 they must have de stroked it or such . I think the Camry engine may be a little improvement a very little over the ZZ engine but they're both open deck so there's always that The Camry's with the A engine are sitting all over the country with blown engines they're everywhere you can buy them for like $2,000 and beautiful condition.

    thanks, i'll keep that in mind if our's blows. it's a sweet little engine compared to prius, and produces 50mpg in a much larger, heavier car.

    I guess the A engine has had its share problems not necessarily in the hybrid but the 4-cylinder A engine in those cameras that look like they're hybrids but they're not You can get those dirt cheap all through the southeast United States are laying around here in mint condition with blowed up engines I guess similar problems to the ZZ it's an open deck design I don't know exactly what happens to the Camry personally but they're everywhere they're like $2,300 cars and even that's a little much at this point but some of them are clean as a pin man unbelievable

    It is a 3-mpg difference in city/highway combined, which is a significant 6% difference. That's a $100 difference in annual fuel costs for the average driver.

    ..... & if you benefit from AWD - you didn't slide off into the ditch on an ice covered road - costing you $200 for a tow truck . we all have to assess what's most important based on where we live.

    You can look at it like that if you like but I see four-wheel drive cars slide off the road all over the country from western Massachusetts all the way down to Florida generally not a car issue per se it's a driver issue I've never purposely owned all-wheel drive cars and I've lived in snowy winters most of my life never even put a car in the ditch put a car off the road but not in the ditch and things like that we used to love for the snow to be out early in the morning and be the first people out doing donuts and cutting up I mean we woke up an hour early for that used to take my child and the baby seat put her in the front seat and do that and we've done 360s and 180s and all kinds of nonsense All of her life.

    just think of all the ignorant folks buying subarues, awd pickups, suv's, teslas ... all that wasted money - because they can't grasp such great reasoning that vehicles should be 2wd.

    I in no way stated that all vehicles should be two-wheel drive but if you're going to pay extra money for the extra drive line I hope you really need it I certainly do not but what I need has nothing to do with everybody else I certainly understand that. But you're adding weight to the vehicle so on and so forth things change a little supposedly they say this thing is 3 mi to the gallon different but in real world make that about 5 to 7

    Try driving Berthoud pass here in Colorado at 8500 ft without winter tires and AWD. And for the love of god, use puntuation and paragraphs. FFS

    You might find that in the seat cushions though.

    We've slid off the road in an all season tire 4-wheel drive Explorer.

    And yet we've stuck to black ice with these studed bad boys;

    IMG_20211118_144514.jpg

    Not all jurisdictions allow 'em. ... that said - these are on a front wheel drive vehicle.
    Sometimes it's just the luck of the downhill decline or the severity of the curve or the combination - or just the crap shoot.

    The biggest hit is the city more than highway obviously since the awd is only engaged in speeds under 43mph. I’m sure that few mpg hit could be compensated for by downsizing to 16 inch wheels versus the 17 and getting lighter rims. It would balance out the loss

    After seeing the Consumer Reports 2023 Prius Prime podcast just posted on YouTube, I am pretty sure that the 2023 Prius they tested is a black XLE AWD, which they showed in the podcast, and they made a mistake on their website by saying that it was a non-AWD XLE and posting the non-AWD XLE specs.

    Moreover, they probably won't release the full test report for the black 2023 Prius XLE AWD until they release the test report for the gray 2023 Prius Prime XLE they are testing, as they probably want to mention the Prius Prime in the report for the Prius.

    They didn't seem to "like" the Prius Prime PHEV; so, it is likely that they will give it a lower score than the Prius HEV. It appears that Consumer Reports' car scores are mostly based on subjective criteria.
