    In which case "60 amp braking" is the best option for maximizing regen and minimizing heat and other losses.

    Yes, but not if you have to burn more fuel to get the higher SOC. SOC is not in any way an indication of efficiency. In fact the highest efficiency will be found when you don't use the battery, taking SOC completely out of the equation. Don't make the mistake of assuming more regen means better mpg.

    You need to accurately monitor fuel consumption before you can make any statement about efficiency.
