Hey guys I have a 2012 Prius that I just acquired. It came with Snow tires and a newer set of regular tires. Looking for a place to change out the tires and wondering what I should be paying for someone to do this? Do you recommend bringing to a Toyota dealer or will any regular tire place do? Thanks!

Get a set of steel rims, fit winter tyres and swap rims twice a year according to season, that way the tyre sealing-beads are not compromised by repeated changing! (think about it!), plus the wheels only need to be balanced once when the tyres are first fitted!

Any regular tire shop should be fine.

Price? Sorry, I don't know what is reasonable. My tire sets are on separate rims, and I swap them myself.

If you go the rims route, these are good:

Corolla steel rim, part no: 42611-02471 (2003-2008 corolla or matrix, CE, LS, S)
steel rim lug nuts, part no: 90942-01007 (plain, open-ended, galvanized)

I did, when it was the only game still open* in town. For the tire shop, I didn't have to go inside and witness how customers dressed there. :)

*Costco was open too, but wouldn't service tires not bought there. The car in question still had the factory tires.
*Never mind Les Schwab's ad about staying open late. When we called from the road, just before closing, they wouldn't stay open until we could get there.

Local place I go to is just under $80 for four tires m&b. Tire Rack has a directory of installers with flat pricing: Delivery & Installation

"bubble balancer"? I've never heard of one of those, does it dynamically balance the tyre mounted on the rim?

    Lol
You put the tire on the rim, lock the bead then set it on the balancer, you add weights till the bubble on the balance centers.
    Hi tech

I just looked it up! How is it better than having the tyres dynamically balanced? It's STATIC fer gawd's sake! No matter, if that's what works for you go to it! How does it know whether the weight should be on the inside or the outside of the rim?

    FREE = Better

I would never pay to mount anything below 14" and never pay to mount trailer tires.

Most of my alloy rims have a different outer flange than inner and my weights won't clip on to the outside anyway, the places I go in a hurry to mount and balance always put the weight to the inside and given most tires offset in not out that's usually where they belong.

Only time dynamic is needed is on big tires with bad rims or old crappy tires on good rims.

I gather then, that you have never been faced with changing a tyre on a Mini (no, not the bloated BMW version, I'm referring to the original BMC version which was built from 1959 to 2000!!) The original Mini had 10" wheels, and the tyres were impossible to remove, until you realised that the rims were asymmetrical and the tyres could only be fitted or removed from the inside edge of the rim. I can't tell you how many times I've witnessed a gorilla-sized moron ruin a brand new tyre by trying to stretch it over the outside of the rim! I'd be willing to pay a tyre shop to let me use/borrow a machine. Same goes for dynamic balancing too!

My Subaru 360 had 10" tires with inner tubes and split rims, take off the bolts and fit a new tube and tire replace and tighten the bolts in a star pattern.

    Easy peasy no effort required.

Of course it would be, having an inner-tube, but the wheels to which I was referring were fitted with tubeless tyres! ;)
