My Prius had to visit the dealer more it's first year than my Volt has. I still get recall notices on my Prius, not one yet on my Volt. :)

Mine never needed any work last season. I doubt it will need any this season either ;)

The Volt is a cool concept, I just really don't trust it will be running for long... I could be wrong and a risk may be worth it if it's cheap enough.

    It's the incentives.

With the incentives for larger batteries it can pencil out to be cheaper to get a Volt or CMAX than a Prius Plug In. My main problem is buyers remorse for buying the PIPa under the impression that it qualified for the full $9,000 worth of fed and state incentives. I completely forgot that it only qualified for $4,000. So even though I got mine for well under MSRP and another $1,500 worth of accessories thrown in, I still felt like I lost out on $5,000. Toss in the $6,000 worth of dealer and manufacturer incentives and well, I am not thoroughly happy with my choice. :)

just how much of financial hit will you take F8L trading in your PiP for volt?
if you can afford it, or makes you absolutely happy - then thats all it matters.
you just recently traded in your 2012 prius for pip, how satisfying will you be owning volt? and how long?

Or a Rav4 EV (w/the crazy So Cal Toyota incentives). Only problem is, I think he'd be even more in the doghouse w/the CFO :D Too bad the Rav4 EV doesn't have a CHAdeMO (DC fast charge port) to take advantage of the growing network. :(

As I've heard people say... once you have some EV range, you want more...

Ha! The Leaf and Rav4 just don't offer the range I need. I often (few rimes a week or more) drive over 120 miles a day and my car is THE traveling car for long distances.

And my CFO would no doubt kill me. :)

Funny you say that, because of the PiP, I want a LEAF now. Never considered the LEAF when I got my PiP lease (sure wish I could rewind time now). I think many PiP owners are starting to feel this way now.

That will just cause more wasted depreciation on his inevitable path towards a Tesla.

Ah hell, buy a tent to live in. Buy the Volt. Keep your PiP. Buy a RAV-4EV. Stand on a corner with a sign begging for money to buy you a Tesla sumthin rather.

    No. Don't do it.

Instead, go to your girlfriend, look into her eyes and tell her that you love her very much. (Maybe even do something crazy and ask her to marry you.)

Then, take a deep breath and think about how you're going to pay off the Prius loan.

I've sworn off GM cars ever since I bought a Cadillac Catera in 1999. For the first 4 yrs, it averaged a major trip to the service center every 6 weeks. I had it in over 40 times before I got rid of it. GM's response? That's normal, live with it.
What broke? other than just about every kind of fluid leak you could think of: radio connected to the wrong power supply so that all programmed stations are reset to some static number like 520 AM whenever you shut the car off. Door hinges not strong enough - both front door hinges failed. Cruise control broke. new brakes every 20,000 miles. And then the GM people were arrogant enough to tell me when I test drove a Volt that I'd have to pay over $4,000 above MSRP for market adjustment. (I test drove a leaf too - wanted to know what I was missing when getting the PiP). GM can take a hike, they'll never get another thin dime from me. I don't trust their quality nor their attitude towards customers.

PS - the dealer kept telling me what a joke and PoS the PiP was. What a tool.

Is the Volt based upon the Cruze chassis?
