Custom startup screen prius prime

And for those who had the Radio Shack TRS-80 (in this case, the color computer) instead of the Commodore, here's an idea for a startup screen. Again, (linux shminux) you never really know what OS Toyota is actually using...

 

That is awesome! I was way into the CoCo when I was a teenager... gotta steal your idea for my Prius Prime!

 

Well... since this thread got bumped, I want to ask:

How do I bypass the startup video sequence on my 11.6 screen so that I can just immediately jump to climate control settings?

 

AFAIK, no one has yet figured that out. The idiotic startup music can be turned off in the settings.

 

I actually didn't change the startup screen on my Prime, just used photoshop for a humorous post here... but apparently you can indeed change the startup screen to any JPEG you like (check out the owners manual), so I don't see why you can't make it a reality in your prime! (Or DinoWars or MegaBug perhaps?)

 

Where in the owner's manual might that information be?

Not sure. I could have sworn I read somewhere that you could change the startup screen with your own JPEG (I have the 7" screen), but I could be wrong (am I?) I never was really interested in doing so, and trying to find one thing in that manual can take hours.

 

That's why I also have a PDF version, which is so much easier to search for anything.

 

One of the videos on YouTube that shows how to do this says it is in the Nav System Manual. Alas, like others here I have and Advanced and can't access the custom screen option.

 

I did it with my Plus (p.60 of the Nav manual), but changing the Startup Screen is not really that impressive... it appears for about two seconds after the standard screen and before the warning about using the screen while driving. The “Screen Off” image is better... it appears when you select “screen off” from “settings” and will stay on indefinitely. Unfortunately you can only use JPG images for both of them.

 

Maybe for the Advanced and Premiums, we could just have a custom printed 11.6" static cling screen cover with whatever image we wanted on it. Sure, you're saying, "But wouldn't that just cover up what is supposed to be displayed on the screen?" Yes. Yes it would. But it would look good for the desired duration of display, it would physically protect the screen, it would defeat the glare problem, would be relatively cheap, and it would have not one possibility of accidentally crashing the firmware (which can crash and reboot easily enough by itself).
