I say give Danny time; everything can't be done in 1 day.
The ads do help pay for a FREE FORUM.(y)

    Apparently not.
Each user requires a unique email address though.
Blindly screening for multiple accounts from a single IP is not a good policy........with home routers and such serving multiple physical devices from a single ISP connection.

Who said anything about ADS ???

And this problem has been going on for MONTHS, not days.

AND.....what happened to the promised "fix" for disappearing threads ???

I can only speak for myself, but if I do not like a forum, I stop going there. None of my boxes functionally have issues with this site, content is a matter of choice.

As I suspected some people haven't really been following my saga.
The problem IS that I DO like this site; that is, the people here and the wealth of information and experiences that it contains.
The fact that YOU are having no problems has no real bearing on whether or not someone else is.

What I don't like is the inept-ness of the owner and management.
    I will stop there.
I really, really, REALLY don't like to be negative but facts are facts.

Generally, I've seen sites monitor users and all of the IP addresses they've used. Whenever two users trip on the same IP address, it can mean they're friends/family sharing the same private address, strangers using the same public address, or the same person with multiple accounts.

I used one of those "cleaning" programs (that has good reviews) once when I was having some problems. What a horrible mess it made. I had to completely delete Chrome, Firefox and a couple of other programs then reinstall them to get everything working correctly.

CCleaner The problem was with a WordPress plug-in running on localhost. Someone on the wordpress.org forum suggested CCleaner. After using CCleaner there was a forced home page in all browsers for some search website. It did not fix the problem with the plug-in. It was a while ago, I don't remember all the details.

You had a browser hijack. CCleaner did not cause your problem, I've been using that tool for years.

That's what I thought too but it happened when I used CCleaner. The downloaded exe must have been infected. I thought I got it from a good source but probably not. As I said, it got good reviews. The point being there can be something on you computer that makes things go bad but they aren't necessarily because of the website/forum you are viewing.

That's what I told EasyRider. Sometimes CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download will route you to filehippo for the download or manual update, so just re-address and load directly from Piriform - Download CCleaner - Millions of users worldwide! to avoid that variable. If your browser hijack appeared when you ran CCleaner, it's more likely your box was already hit, unless possibly you downloaded from a third party link or site. I have had to remove "search.conduit.com" (do not go there) from my mother-in-laws computer twice and it will not let you just directly kill the add-on from your browser(s). You have to go into Program files and Program files (x86) and clean out the traces as well. How to remove a browser plugin and add-on.

Anyways...the only minor irritant I have here is "unannounced" site shutdowns due to maintenance, but hell, it is just a forum. ;) Better than loosing your server a work. :censored:

Sometimes the server just hiccups and the site goes down, unrelated to site maintenance.

Thanks Paradox for that clarification, but as stated it's really not an issue.

My "test user" seemed to be working fine so I have now created a whole new "permanent user" and it seems to be working too.
Went back to IE11 in the process; it is SOOooo nice to have the post preview working again.
Thanks to all who offered suggestions along the way.
I still think the main cause might have been tied up with Facebook somehow.
Anyhow, my original user was corrupted and since management wasn't willing to help fix it, creating a new user was the only option.
