Does anyone have a recommendation for a dash cam that would be inconspicuous on a Gen 3 Prius? I'm hoping for something small enough to mount behind the rear view mirror, to be mostly hidden from view but still clear the shaded part at the middle of the windshield.

I had my windshield replaced, and didn't notice that they used a windshield for a Prius with the Homelink mirror, there's a blackout strip running from the rear view mirror mount to the top of the windshield. I could run the power cable along it and you wouldn't notice.

I use a Viofo A129 Duo with an additional rear camera.
The camera is available in different versions with different resolutions. IMG_20210129_153918.jpeg

Get rid of that obnoxious claustrophobic inducing center console design and re-fabricate the dash so you have room for a nice screen. Here's a pic of the mod I've always wanted to do on Gen3. And if anyone in Northern West Coast wants to give me the opportunity to create something as beautiful as this, let me know.

check Amazon for rear view mirror / Dashcam combos. they have awesome reviews, and record front/rear simultaneously.

    Check over at RDF. https://www.rdforum.org/

It's mainly a Radar Detector Forum but they have a section on Dash Cams.

Vortex one the main guys over there does a lot of comparison videos on Radar Detectors, Laser Jammers and Dash Cams
    Vortex Radar - YouTube

A review he did about a year ago on 4K Dash cams.

On his personal page he has a Best of Dash Cam section where he'll recommend best over all price be damned to best bang for the buck cameras. Just scroll down to the dash cams section.

Best Radar Detectors, Radar Detector Reviews and Guides: Vortex Radar

Just a heads up on Vortex is he's an Escort Fanboy and he does unknowingly show bias towards Escort radar detectors.

Otherwise he seems like a really nice guy, electrical engineering, computer background by training.

Blackvue fan here, and not just a specific product. They seem to really get what is needed in a dashcam, and it shows through their whole product line.

They build theirs from the ground up to withstand that left-in-the-window automotive environment where a lot of the others are repackaged cell phone parts that won't take the heat for long.

I just ordered the VIOFO A129 Duo IR. At $139, it seemed the best deal for a quality duo camera solution. This model is targeted at Uber/Lyft drivers so the rear cam can be pointed inside your car or mounted on rear window like all others.

I previously had a cheaper Apeman camera but it failed to record during my recent accident. I suspect the
SD card needed to be reformatted but the error message isn't obvious. On that note, it's important to get a brand that does clearly notify you when it is having issues. I also liked VIOFO because you can also manage it using your phone.
