The Fusion is a good looking car in my opinion and my guess is they are built on the same assembly line as the others helping keep their cost low.

 

FWIW, Camry hybrid sales were around 6% of total Camry sales in March.

According to the Toyota release, the Camry posted sales of 35,264, outselling top-performing RAV4.

Also, of note, NX Hybrid up 156.8 percent in March, a best-ever March.

Interesting that Camry Hybrid is only 6% of sales.
I think you actually have more cargo space in the hybrid due to compact spare.
I guess the hybrid cost penalty is apparent? Could not make an immediate cost comparison.

 

a lot of low end camry's get sold for sub $20,000., that is not a hybrid market. it's great transportation for the masses.

 

I am surprised the Chrysler Pacifica PHEV is not on this list.

So we now know 9645 of 20936 Primes were sold in Ca. (46%) in 2017.
To my knowledge, we never knew how many PiP's were sold in Ca., nor PiP vs. Energi sales vs. Volt. We only knew total PHEV sales.

 

No, the site Bob gets this info from is reporting all alternatives to traditional gasoline cars; while models were available, CNG cars were reported.

I have seen headlines about high commercial truck sales for the past few months. While not a commercial sized truck, most Transit sales will be for business use.

The trunk space reported to the EPA is the same. A difference could be in the rounding error, but I doubt Toyota changed the spare tire well to take advantage of a smaller spare for trunk space. Likely the compact spare is for weight and/or cost savings. The hybrid loses a little cabin space.

The Camry LE MSRP is $24,000, and hybrid's is $27,800. The XLE has the same $2800 difference, but the SE's is higher. The hybrid LE comes with SKS and heated front seats. SKS is listed as available for the non-hybrid, but I couldn't find it in the build feature.

 

Any way to take out the diesels then?

For the US, diesels are very small segment of the market. They make up a smaller share of annual sales than hybrids do. Perhaps 1% counting the large pick ups left off the list here. There is less than a dozen diesels on this list, and about half are the VW cheater models that were held for months on dealer lots waiting for an approved fix.

For this year, there are five(counting Chevy/GMC siblings as one) diesels for sale that aren't a leftover cheaters or luxury models; the Transit, Equinox, Cruze, Colorado, and F150, which is not available yet. 2019 will add the Silverado. FCA yes they paln to bring back the Ram pick up and I guess the Grand Cherokee, but I don't know when. Mazda also plans to put their diesel in something, the CX-5 I believe.

 

Mazda has been saying for a few years that they were going to bring a diesel here, but the diesel scandals may scare them off. Subaru gave up.

 

Mazda didn't give up because of the diesel scandals, they were simply unable to get their first generation skyactiv-d to provide both adequate power and meet epa emissions without a SCR system. Adding SCR would raise the price too much. VW simply cheated on the test to get the cars to pass and have adequate power.

They say they are going to try again with a second generation of skyactiv-d. Undoubtedly they have learned things in their testing, but perhaps if skyactiv-x works (that is the spark controlled compression ignition gasoline engine that should provide diesel like mode with low pollution) and every indication is that it will, there simply won't be a market to pay a premium in a mazda for diesel in the US. The diesels sell well enough for mazda in japan where the tests are easier.
