A reference to a type of test that the company "Megger" standardized with their test equipment. Similar to how we say "xerox-ing" even though the copy machine itself can be any brand or when we want a tissue we generally say "kleenex".

The test will tell you the relative amount of moisture in the insulation, leakage current, and map the windings' health with insulation versus time. Apply a high DC voltage and see how long it takes and how much of it "creeps" its way into other parts of the system. In a perfect world with 100% isolation and 100% insulation, it would be a very boring test. But we don't live in the world of SPICE so the test will show us how far from ideal our world is.

High voltage insulation test. Basically an ohm meter with a high voltage supply usually 500 to 1000 volts. Early versions used a hand wound generator to produce the voltage.

A general FYI: "Generator" and "Motor" are listed under covered parts of California emission control warranty in my 2009 Prius warranty booklet.

The dealership ordered the new transaxle and it should be installed tomorrow. Toyota Customer Care was helpful and is covering part of the repair cost. I'm still trying to negotiate a lower price with dealer. Thank you to everyone who posted above.
