Maybe it shows that the "lifetime" service Interval for the transaxle should be taken with a huge grain of salt? ;)

    end of the discussion?

if he wants to use something other than what toyota recommends, fine/
obviously for every argument pro the toyota stuff, he has something that proves the opposite/
it's his decision, maybe a different fluid is better, maybe not/
but obviously, this thread here will never come to an end if it goes on the way it does right now....

Is it just me or shouldn't that manual warning say "untimely" rather than "ultimately"?

This is one reason a lot of owners resort to DIY: after dealership feeds you so much misinformation, do you want them doing this?

The grammar and choice of words is a bit fractured, lost in translation?

while i agree with you, i don't necessarily believe the oil analysis proves anything.
these things are not intuitive. did you know new oil increased engine wear?

Considering the $120 estimate, and all the silly information the service writer has put out, I'd consider talking to one or more other dealerships. Some ARE more down to earth.

I've done a couple of transaxle fluid changes, and it's definitely an easy chore, if anything easier than an engine oil and filter change. The 4 liters of Toyota ATF-WS and 2 washers is comparable too, under $40.

Remove two bolts, reinstall one, pour in fluid 'till it starts coming out, reinstall the other bolt.
