Dealer wants $4000 for new head gasket...advice?

    Looks like a much more rudimentary one.

    Still, elevated combustion chamber temps come with clogged EGR, the 3rd gen Prius has that in spades, etcetera etcetera...

    Yes, they do:

    2AR-FXE Toyota engine

    "For the 2AR-FXE engine, the EGR system included a step-motor and a water cooler to reduce gas temperatures."

    EGR "water" cooler P/N is 25680-36010

    My maybe-flawed thought process: I'd like for there to a be a culprit for the failed head gaskets, one that can be remedied. I hope it's the EGR clogging, and just keeping on top of that, the head gaskets will go the distance.
