The addition of Android Auto and Apple carplay would help keep Toyota ahead of the rest of the pack. There are probably licensing issues and other questions, but consumers would really love to have these features. Toyota could at least make a statement to its owners assuring them Toyota is working on this, or explaining why they can't do it. This type of response would show that Toyota does care.

Toyota wants to be THE leader in the future. There are many innovations that they are bringing forward that are very costly, but they feel it is what the consumer wants (and also very cool). This is relatively cheap, and the way everyone is tied to their phones, it is the future! (y)

Missing vote option, "I don't care." If you agree with me, 'like' this post.

I suspect these may be software options that like Tesla, we might buy in the future. For now, my older iPhone 5s does what I expect in both our BMW i3-REx and Prius Prime Plus.

Toyota insists on going solo - and it is so poor. I go out of my way to ignore entune, and only interact with any of the systems minimally. Anyone know if there are aftermarket head units with apple/droid compatability where you do NOT lose any functionality of the car?

From what I've seen of Android Auto (I don't pay attention to Apple), it doesn't really do anything that's of any particular use. The same seems to be true of Entune.

And I don't really see the point anyway. Why not make the in-car touch screen run Android proper instead?

    1) 'Toyota' does not read PriusChat.
    2) It is entirely possible the relevant engineers do not read English.
    3) Toyota's US Marketing group does post in PriusChat, there is no sign they read anything but replies to their own posts. (Marketing does not design cars, anyway)
    4) You can still vent, just do not expect that this is an avenue of change.

I have used Android Auto in rental cars with Google Maps and find it quite convenient. Normally in a rental car I have to drag out my Garmin and set it on the dash, but if the car has Android Auto I just go to Google Maps on my phone, search for my destination (new or previous) and start a navigation, then connect the phone to the car's USB port and Android Auto automatically launches and within seconds the car's MFD starts displaying the route including voice announcements through the car's audio system (even if the radio is turned off). It's not displaying the Google Maps screen, it seems to be Android Auto's own interface but pulling the route information from Google Maps. And on your phone you no longer see Google Maps you just see a black screen that says Android Auto. You can still use your phone for other functions, you just can't use Google Maps on your phone while using Android Auto.

You can also search destinations in Android Auto but the interface isn't as good as Google Maps so I prefer to do the search in Google Maps, which it seems you have to do prior to connecting your phone. But I have also used the Android Auto voice command while driving to find a destination and that worked pretty good also.

I think the Android Auto interface could use some improvements, but the nice thing is they can update the app continuously, whereas built in navigation systems are unlikely to ever get software upgrades on existing cars, you are usually stuck with whatever interface comes with the car and it never changes, other than you can shell out a Ben Franklin every few years for map updates, which in the case of Google Maps is continuously updated for free.

You are free to think what you will. I wish you were right, but I do not believe it.

Wow is it true that you have to pay to get map updates? That's ridiculous.

let's put it this way: if prius team reads a few threads, they've been well aware of the entune problem since it's introduction. if that's the case, they've had 6 years to do something about it.

I wanted to get the GPS updated in my 2012 v and was quoted a price of $250, so it never got done.

I simply bought a used Garmin and never looked back.

There are good reasons not to care too.

Mine is that virtually none of the complaints ever take the time to explain why.

Being a software developers, complaints like that go into the "don't bother" pile. If they don't take the time to really think out what they want and provide the details to others, how can we possibly deliver what they actually want? There's simply no way to know.

It's not a waste of my time if you take some of your own to share. Heck, how would I even know how familiar you are with what got delivered so far. We may find out the solution is just an upgrade, not a replacement.

I'm buying a car, not a docking station for my iPhone.
