I'm probably not going to be making any friends with this post, but i think it needs to be said... what makes you think the Dems truly control the Senate? In reality, i see it as 49-49 with two swing votes:

Joe Lieberman - i think i heard it best when one of my brothers described him as "a republican dressed up like a donkey" - he didn't even win the party's Primary, and had to create his own "Connecticut for Lieberman" party in order to get on ballot!

Bernie Sanders - a freshman with absolutely no voting history. Howard Dean was the clear democratic front runner in Vermont, and yet couldn't coordinate his party's efforts to claim Jeezum Jim Jefford's vacant seat, i think it's pretty clear that Vermont decided it wouldn't be democratic politics as usual

How about because the Independents have said so?

A victory by Webb would put the new Senate lineup at 49 Democrats, 49 Republicans and two independents -- Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Joe Lieberman of Connecticut -- who have said they would caucus with the Democrats.

It would be great if all the democrats would follow Bernie Sander's agenda. Universal health care, cutting the military budget, more taxes on corporations and the top 1%, less tax on the middle class, more money for education, end tax breaks for oil, drug and pharmaceutical companies. Not that it will ever happen.

You're assuming every single Democrat and Republican would vote en masse along party lines.

There will always be some Republicans that will vote with Democrats and a some Democrats that will vote with Republicans.

There's no telling what is going to happen. But it will certainly be interesting.

Suddenly the old curse "May you live in interesting times" sounds inviting. Talk about lowered expectations!

Not me. I have no interest in taking over the world. Unless the Ruler of the World gets to sleep with Juliette Lewis, or maybe Scarlett Johansson. If that's the case, count me in. Excuse me a minute while I Google "How to take over the world." ...

Unfortunately, recent history shows that's only half true.

I'll just add to what others have already written in response to your post.

Bernard Sanders has been a member of the United States House of Representatives since 1990. He has caucused with the Democrats at least since 1994.
