Nah, you're fine on the software.

Sounds like you stuck the iPod into simple mode. After you flip a DIP switch you have to unplug it from the car harness. Leaving the car off doesn't matter. And I made an error on what I said earlier. I said 2nd bank of DIP switches. I should have wrote 1st bank. On the first bank, move the DIP switches with one up and one down (doesn't matter which) and on the 2nd bank have them both up. Then plug the cable back in.

I have just installed the Gen 2 DICE unit in my 06 Prius Package 8 with NAV. I've got it on the MP3 setting. The good news- I can see the song titles and navigate from the steering wheel. The bad news: NO SOUND AT ALL. I have a 1.4.1 iPod mini, charged and functioning. Clearly the link between the device and the IPOD is working or I wouldn't see the song titles. Any suggestions on why there is no sound? Have tried the SAT and CD settings, but don't see the text when they are in that setting (and no sound either). Anyone have any ideas? (I also tried my daughter's iPod and hers didn't work either, so I don't think that's the problem.)

Hmm, that's a new one. I'll see if I can get an answer. In the meantime, try resetting the iPod.

Also, is the iPod's software updated?

What is the turnaround from order to delivery on the Dice? I'm still waiting on the refund, but not sure yet if it is going to paypal or not.

    Did you order through Priuschat?

And I'm slightly confused, you ordered and then sent it back?

Ok, so I asked a few people and the answer can't be any more specific. The cable either from the iPod to the module or from the radio to the module most likely is bad or not fully plugged in. Can you check those and if they're all nice and snug I'll send you out another set? When you look at them, check the pins and see if anything's bent.

Hi Vagabond, oh expert of the DICE device. I have in fact reset the ipod and also updated it to the latest version, and still nada. Perhaps a bum device?

Things seem nice and snug. Not loose behind the radio, as some people have reported. No bent pins that I can see.

It was for another radio out of a crashed car that didnt do what it was listed as. I just ordered the DICE 20 minutes ago, the refund had posted early this morning, so I am eagerly awaiting delivery of the Dice.

It's more likely it's a bad cable than a device since you're getting data. PM me your shipping info and we'll talk about getting you a new one.

Has anyone figured out how to do iPod video from DICE to the dash screen?

    Thanks!

You need to tap a RCA plug into the line. There's kits all over the place on the net for sale for this. DICE doesn't have any plans on selling them because there's a good risk of getting sued.

So I was looking through the posts here and I haven't really found a straight forward answer to this question. I have a 2005 Prius that is package 1 I believe. No nav, chgr, and no smart start. I have installed the XM radio unit from costaltech. Will I be able to use both the XM and DICE unit??? I am sorry if it is on here somewhere, but I was unable to find it after an hour. Thank you all.

Also to the above Post. Why do they offer a video iPod cradle on the DICE website. Does it still just do audio and hold a video iPod?

The cradle, AFAIK, is just a cradle -- it really has nothing to do with the DICE unit itself. You drop the iPod in, then plug the DICE into the cradle. But this cradle also has a video output jack, which you can use to plug in to any video input YOU may have rigged up. As Vagabond indicated, they're afraid that if THEY give you a video input someone may sue them for you crashing your car while watching a movie. :)

Thanks for that clarification. Do you know about the XM and DICE?

    WISE WORDS OF CAUTION!

IN addition it is extremely illegal in most states to have any kind of video unit in the front that the driver can see while the vehicle is in operation. In some situations if the cop who stops it and pulls you over and is in a bad mood can red tag your vehicle in addition to writing you up. I actually saw a guy get arrested for having a DVD player on his dash playing a movie while he was driving. He was the only person in the car at the time. One other thing to keep in mind, if you have a video input to the mfd and have an accident, if the insurance company of the other person who was involved gets wind of it, you may verify be owned by that person, so think twice before adding video to the MFD.

For several years I was an OTR truck driver, went to driving school including skid pad training to obtain my license, and I have seen things that would make you sick, like a stupid idiot on a motorcycle going at least 120MPH slam into the back of a car on the highway and become one with the light arm on the highway light pole. Split him in two and made a mess of everything for several hours, including blood all over my truck. I have seen stupid people in an escort cut off a loaded 18 Wheeler and slam on the brakes and become one with the undercarraige of the truck, killing all inside including a 6 month old who wasnt in a car seat but was ejected out the front window and left skid marks on the road. When I see someone doing something other than keeping their attention on the road, like talking on a cell phone, reading a paper or book, putting on makeup, or worse of all watching a video, I want to run them off the damned road before they kill somone. I really dont care that they are putting themselves and their passengers at jeopardy, I care that they may be putting me and my family at risk due to their inattention. Things happen really fast on the road and a one second distraction can lead to someone dying.

SO like I said, please, think twice before doing something stupid like enabling video output to the MFD.

So do Coastaltech XM and DICE ok together??? Please help I have an iPod, but would like to keep my XM. If they are not is there an adapter. I have looked on the DICE website and on some of the other toyota models it says that it has a plug for it, but I wasn't sure if the coastaltech XM kit is the same. Any help would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

The DICE unit has a passthrough plug designed to daisychain anything that may have already been plugged in to that slot, such as satellite radio. I don't know specifically about the Coastaltech, but as long as it uses that same input and plays by the rules of the Prius radio protocols, it should work just fine.
