I have the basic II and my teen daughter who has sharp ears told me the sound is not good on radio.
Now I have a chance to buy a radio with CD from someone who upgraded to Nav radio.

Do you experience significant difference on sound quality? Does those two versions use the same speaker?

I don't really play CD, so if sound quality is same then I will pass.
    Thank you!

Just plugging in that other stereo isn't going to give you any better sound through the same speakers, with radio stations. That part I can tell you without any other information.

    Thank you!
So the speaker does play a role in the case of Prius?

You would have to buy a new radio and new speakers. The sound is pretty poor in a prius unless you upgrade.

In almost all cars, the speaker is what plays most of the role. Stereos don't really push out much, and depending on how much goodness is wanted from the sound I'm sure an amplifier or some other in-line utility is needed.
Personally, I'm through with those years. I have a Persona and the system is plenty fine for me. However, yes, if you want better sound then the easiest way to do it is new speakers, and if more power through those speakers are wanted then an amp.
