Dip stick Accuracy, Caution

    My level is pretty much at .75 inch mark. Will that be alright? I had the shop add just 3 quarts 5w30.

    If the oil level is between the two dimples, then it is good. The point of having the oil level nearer to the top dimple is so that you have some reserve in case you have an oil leak and it takes a while for you to notice the problem.

    If you use 3.5 qt then the oil level will be ~1/8" below the top dimple.

    Patrick is correct. I have had the local Toyota Dealer change the oil on both of our Prii and specified only 3.5 qts be added each time. This gives an oil level on the dip stick of 1/8" below the top dimple.

    No. The Dealer dispenses the oil out of a bulk tank with a machine that you set the desired dispensing volume. Thus, you only get charged for 3.5 qts.
