The question is, is Level 1 the loudest or the softest?

    Dude,
I may be out of circulation soon; they're going to work on my bladder/colon soon, so I may disappear for a while. I can hardly wait! How much fun can a 67 year-old man have! The doctors are going to be "practicing" on me; I hope they get it right! My poor cat and my Prime won't be getting my attention...
I'm going to have to write a new song, this time about getting chopped up by meat cutters. No sarcasm here. Har, har, har.
Like I always say, enjoy every single day! The world is beautiful!

    Good Luck!

OK, I did that but still no noise. Upon accelerating I did hear the electric motor, so I'm not totally deaf.

stand outside the car, with someone else creeps by. you only have to let your foot off the brake for it to sound.
check the settings for volume level as posted above.

I tried several times to hear this and I just can't. I only hear the electric motor sound. No grinding sound at all.

Are you sure. I hear it in my 2012 PIP.
IIRC I also heard it in my 2010 gen 3 (which I sold when I got a Leaf 2 years ago).
    Or am I hearing things?

I wasn't aware of that. Could explain why so many people say they can't hear it, pulling into the garage they are likely pressing the brake pedal.

apologies, i meant from a standstill, as soon as you let it creep, the system is activated.
if the car is moving, up to 15 mph, the vpns is sounding off.

Does the volume and/or pitch change relative to speed, or is the sound just either on or off? If it's the former then I'm guessing it would be fairly quiet while pulling into the garage.

    Pitch changes with speed, supposedly.

not on gen 3, on/off. 4 maybe, and it also has the adjustable levels. mine is quite loud in the garage, no mistaking it.

I have a 2010 Gen 3 and it definitely doesn't have the sound. i remember in late 2010 Toyota, and later the government talking about making it mandatory, but they were already into the 2011 model year, and I don't think they actually had the sound until 2012. It's not mandatory by law until 2019... (In the U.S.)

Can this be adjusted by Carista OBD2? Are levels 2 and 3 louder than the original setting or quieter?
