The same switch that disengages the CC also turns on the brake lights. I was getting tired of people trying to drive into my hatch back because my brake lights wouldn't light unless I really came down hard on the brakes, something I don't usually do. I'm afraid your "work around" of using the steering column switch won't help much with the brake lights.

So...it does NOT turn on the brake lights when used to disengage CC? I'm not even to 1000 miles yet here...still learning.

The switch that is actuated by the brake pedal, which is the one we are discussing here, disengages the cruise control and turns on the brake lights. Therefore the brake lights come on at exactly the same moment that the cruise control disengages. If the cc doesn't disengage soon enough with the brake pedal the brake lights don't come on soon enough either. So adjusting it correctly solves two problems at the same time.

Got to test mine out today on the highway and what a pleasant surprise. The CC is canceled with a slight tap of the brake and there is no tug of the car fighting the regen. Just plain smooth now.:)
