Just about all high quality batteries come with 36 month warranty with free replacement.

If that were the case, I suspect Tesla would have to make their own batteries

If you consider the ~$4500 extended warranty we paid for a way of paying for the battery, then yes. I think they wanted to charge us like $230 this past summer before I repeated "extended warranty" to them like 5 times and emailed them the receipt from when I bought it (I'm sure you can guess by now why we haven't purchased another one).

It's actually kind of useless - we have a more serious issue (that I don't care to discuss) but they won't fix it despite us having the warranty. Also, it's the first extended warranty I've ever had that has a deductible (it's a little like health insurance for the car).

That is bogus. Surprising it isn’t more publicized by the media.
I wonder if @Zythryn has this problem

LMAO. Tesla "quality" is kind of a well-known quantity these days (and the fanatical owner base who respond to criticism as if you had insulted their mother). I wouldn't be surprised if another Tesla owner showed up and started personally insulting me (like that other time where he-who-I-will-not-name was doing it on the down-low).

Z is a pretty straight shooter who deals in facts. What year is yours? Does the 3 have the same issue?

    Suuuuuure he is.

    2013.

No idea about the 3. I totally lost interest after all the service BS and don't plan on sampling any more from that hype machine.

edit: please consider that there's a lot of "I never had that issue so it's inconceivable that any one else has it" going on

    Thank you @bisco :)

We had 2 12V battery replacements on our 2012 Model S. At both occurrences, Tesla contacted me to notify me the battery was looking low and they wanted to replace it. Both were under warrantee of course.
We did not have the issue since, with any of our families Tesla’s, including our Model 3s. Although we have only had the Model 3s for 7 and 9 months.

This issue is one of the more common ones I used to hear of. While the power required to start the car is laughably minor compared to a starter motor, the amount of ‘lurking’ power draws is was daunting. I suspect this is what drained some batteries.

I haven’t heard of any such recent issues in our local car club. It is certainly possible, just noting the occurrences have gone way down.

That is a bad assumption to make.
It varies all over the place.
The last time I shopped for one, MOST of them came with a 3-5 year warranty but had free replacement ONLY for the first 12 to 24 months.
    Pro-rated after that.

I agree. Cars that regularly sit idle for a day or three are putting a toll on the battery. The car has various volatile memories and background functions, so there's a low but constant drain.

My rule of thumb: if our car is not going to see use on a day, I hook up a smart charger, let it run through it's charging program, and just leave it hooked up. It can be left thus for protracted periods thus, acts as a "maintainer".

All the car batteries I have bought in recent years come with a three year free replacement. In my opinion if you buy a battery with less than a three year warranty you bought a cheap battery. I buy two or three a year.

At the moment I have 11 batteries.

My Dakota battery is original also from 2006. It's the best I ever had. I think I have 7,500 miles on it now.
It will be hibernating soon, never seen snow.

Ha, similar here! My 70 LTD has a 72 month battery that's been in there for 144 months at least. Still starts the beast every time!
