I know where it would put me - back in bed with a good book, reverse-cycle heat and a coffee - and some Mozart.

If it were MINUS 13 here - I'd just go back to bed - hibernate till Spring.

    Ah.
I meant reverse-cycle heat, hence my bolding.

Yep, A/C on Reverse - might as well hibernate in comfort.

Hopefully won't happen - I don't recall it's ever got to ZERO Celsius here.

I believe we call them heat pumps. At this temperature they need to be supplemented by electric heating coils.

    I learned something new today.

This is exactly what I do here in "so-cold-it-keeps-out-the-riffraff" (whatever that means..but I hear it here often) Minnesota.

During cold spells I manually turn the ventilation system off and on to force ICE shutdown. Note that by 'cold spell' I mean in the area of -15F lows and -5F highs. Still, even when doing this I only get in the very low 40s during cold spells. I do not currently do any manual grille blocking...which your Gen4 should do automatically due to the built-in grille shutters.

When temps get to 35 F to 40 F the MPG dramatically increases.

You are heading south, aren't you?
I am south of you and it was 9 degrees this morning when I left for work.

Haha yes the entire eastern side of the country seems to be in a 'polar vortex' lately.

For the record, we are in far southern Minnesota...which is like an entirely different state than the norther part. MN is a *big* state. The temperatures down here are often vastly different (for the better) than far northern MN.

You never see them. I looked for them 4 years ago before heading to Toronto for the record cold.
We ended up taking our chances anyway driving our Corolla through West Virginia to Toronto to deal with a family situation.

big time. started in my late fifties, after all those years in new england, the cold gets colder, boredom creeps in, snow gets heavier, ice gets slipperier, alcohol tastes better...

All you frozen people, maybe you want to come with me to West Africa next week. I'm preparing for highs around 100-120F for the three weeks I'll be there. Super low humidity, though, but very high dust. (Sub-Sahara) Outside most of the time. I can get ready by enjoying a low of 32F later this week.
