That was much more common back in the old days, when many girls were married off shortly after menarche. Legally too, back then.

Now, despite much earlier average puberty, average first reproduction has moved later.

I remember being the remote control,too...we had to use pliers to change the click click click channel selector seeing how the knob had broken off. we had only 3 channels...CBS, NBC and later ABC...then a high end UHFer came on as independent...we had to have a VHF-UHF combo antenna with a rotor which always froze up in the winter...Antenna was up on dad's Ham Radio tower at 60 ft...Everytime he'd get on the air...so much for the TV..."calling CQ CQ CQ 20..." Us hams here will remember trying all sorts of filtering to help but a fundamental front end overload on the wide open TV receiver...oh well...Thats why we migrated to radio more...dad remembered WLW 500,000watt signal and i only remember its 50,000watt signal as even it is today...there were always things to listen to and stuff to do...even when schools were out and big snow storms hit..

In 1962 we only had 3 stations, ABC, CBS, and NBC. Our phone was rotary, black and the number was BR3-26. No party line in town. In the country, my grandmother had a party line until about 1970. I used to make my own crystal radios and antennas.

I still have a rotary phone in service, plugged in, useful when power outages take down the cordless phone. And it has better sound quality too, plus less background noise.

Though it was acquired in 1983, so beige was available too. Very clearly labeled "Property of General Telephone. Not for sale" on the bottom. But they later didn't want the hassle of disposing of these antiques, so just sent us a new label "Sold by GT."

It would be even more useful if it was touch-tone, but I was on a tight budget then and unwilling to pay the higher monthly rate. Most automated menu systems are not set to understand the pulse dialing.
I was out of town at that time, growing up with an 8 party line. It gradually shrank, to 4 when I went to college, then 2, finally my parents were able to get a single line sometime in the mid-1980s.

I kept a beige princess style touch tone around for many years just for power outages. I still have it but have switched to VOIP. WAY cheaper and more features. No spam calls thanks to included NOMOROBO.

I still have several hardware devices that have the pulse/tone slide switch on them.

Oh my. Party lines sucked depending on how many busy bodies were on there listening in. You could always tell due to the line volume and sound quality going down.

Not quite. The picture was 4:3 aspect ratio not a wide 16:9 image.
Also, it seems you just have a blurred digital image,
Real images from then had lots of snow but also a crawling vertical blanking line and other random noise.

I took a screen shot of a paused video. I cut off the modern ad window banner along the bottom of the video.
