with toyota dropping 5 large in new england for a prime, and possibly helping the dealer with up to another 5 more, they must figure it is cheaper than training sales weasels.

The reason I ask is I was hoping you could recall. I think it is important to hold sources of information responsible for the information they distribute. Since the break even point was reached some 10 years ago, it seems more than a simple mistake.
If a resource did distribute information such as that, I would suggest finding more reliable sources ;)

I'm not sure, but I think you're asking me to cite an omission- correct information I didn't read/wasn't exposed to- rather than something incorrect that I might have read.

If I didn't make it clear before, I do welcome corrections. :)

Good is one thing (effective?), whereas ethical is clearly something else!

Now I may be wrong, but with some cars...dealers do not want a lot of miles put on them during test drives. I think the Prime is one of them for people would put on miles to see the MPG trip meter etc. I wouldn't want to buy a new car with tons of miles on it unless discounted and dealers might not want that either :)

But I do feel the battery should be fully charged when I purchased the car. Dealers should have chargers on site but I can see not 'giving' electricity away for free, so why not provide a half-price option for Toyota owners and a full price for all others?

there should be one car for test drive, and sold at discount when the new model year arrives.

This is actually an area where Nissan does pretty well. They are very open (and may be required via contract with Nissan) to letting Leaf's charge at any time for free, no questions asked. There are even a good majority that will allow other brands to charge there as well. Granted, around here many of the spots near the charging station are usually ICEd, mostly due to ignorance, not malice. But they are quick to move them if needed.

So incentives are fine for SALESPEOPLE, but a waste of money to provide to car buyers in NYS, towards purchasing a pricy new product, when the infrastructure doesn't widely exist currently ? Interesting....

Well, that is what NYS is attempting to do (which APA seems to have an issue with) by providing a rebate for electric and partially electric vehicles, similar to the federal rebate- but in NYS it goes directly to the NY DEALERS who register with NYS, who I guess are then supposed to pass it along to the purchaser; not that I agree with that model, as it would seem much more positive and less controversial to just provide a rebate to the actual car buyer rather than the dealer (and hope that they pass along the discount to the buyers.)

But as I've noted already in this thread, the planning around the infrastructure makes no sense. There are areas where they are saturated almost with EV charging options and other areas that are deserts or totally non-existent.

And hence why EV isn't going to be for everyone. Heck, I'm pro-EV and yet it frustrates me to not have anyplace to charge the vehicle when I'm in an areas of colleges, hospitals, hotels, government agencies and also a Walgreens across the street, and none of them have any EV chargers for people to use (paid or not!)
