If Toyota could have done those things for $59, it would be stock.

So it is either fraud, or illegal. My bet is on both.

There is just one review where the reviewer praises the company for sending him the instructions that should have come in the box to begin with.

There's a whole bunch of these devices out there, and they all look the same. Little box with a couple of wires, maybe some scotchlock wiretap connectors. Maybe it does nothing. Maybe it "spoofs" the engine coolant temperature sensor.

    Mostly smells like BS.

Dude, that performance chip BE LEGIT!
I put that MOST RAD device in my Prius, and on the Mass Pike, I BLEW BY a 2022 Z51 495HP Corvette, by OVER 60MPH!
    Wimpy *ss Vette!
(*Note: The Vette was going ~3mph into a very busy rest stop, where they had a summer Saturday Farmer's Market. :barefoot: )

How does that compare to "Smells Like Teen Spirit"? o_O

Fwiw, from an Electrical Engineering and Controls Systems point of view:
That specific Snake Oil POS adds a resistor in parallel with the Air Intake Sensor.
So, for most vehicles, it makes the air intake temperature look a little lower than what the air intake temperature actually is.
That's why that Snake Oil POS isn't allowed to be sold/shipped to Calf (violates CARB laws/rules).
Fwiw, that is also very dangerous! The car's ECM/ECU/what-ever may allow for more timing. That timing can cause engine pre-ignition/knock. Engine pre-ignition is detected after the pre-ignition events - that is, if the engine even has a knock sensor. Many engines do not.

Also, some algorithms will see those pre-ignition events, and then always lessen the timing advance, under all conditions. Hence, less power, less hp, more smog, etc, etc.

Yes, many many factors go into what any specific vehicles will do when that Snake Oil POS is installed.
Imho, none of the possible results are good.

Did I mention the time I blew by a Dodge Viper on the Mass Pike?
I blew by the Viper so fast, it looked like the car was standing still.
    Sweet!
Fwiw, if someone is driving on the Mass Pike on Saturday morning in the Spring/Summer, and needs to stop at a rest stop to get gas... ..... .........
