Does anyone regret getting a 2016 Prius two vs a Prius 3 or 4?

I loved my 2016 Prius 2 until I sat in a Prius Prime Plug In at the dealers last week! But the 2 was 2/3 the cost of the Prime so I will still love it and the 61 mpg over the last 16k miles!!!

In California, there is the additional incentives and the HOV sticker.
But you now have the ugly black grille ruining the appearance.

 

Different car, but same chassis - PRIME only 4 seats, but is a Plug-In with larger batteries and more powerful electric motors which, depending on your commute & your charging arrangements could mean you use much less petrol.

 

The Two was everything I wanted: White with spare tire. Plenty of stuff to play with. Very happy after nearly 60,000. Only one issue: 12 Volt Battery replaced under warranty. Started the car with a handful of D cell batteries. Replaced under warranty.

 

Wow I never thought of that. I have one of those small portable jumpstart batteries which I have used a few times over the years to start my Prius when the 12V battery was dead. But if for some reason I didn't have the portable battery with me, I could probably just go into a grocery store or convenience store or whatever was nearby and buy eight D cells, some scotch tape and paper clips and rig up a jumpstarter.

 

What sold me on the 2017 Four was getting maximum safety features and heated seats.

 

What sold me on the 2017 Two was the spare tire & safety features. For me, the additional cost for the Three was not worth it.
I have had my car for over a year and am still satisfied. The added safety features introduced in mid-2017 would have been nice, though.

 

Due to the level 2 not having Head's Up Display, which complicates windshield replacement?

 

Actually, I believe it is the camera for collision alert that is located behind the rearview mirror. There is a complex and space consuming calibration procedure that needs to be performed after windshield replacement. This would apply to all 2017 & newer too since the collision alert is now standard.

 

No regrets buying the Prius Two. Also, I don't trust the longevity of the Li-ion battery in the upper models.

Yup, he hit pretty much all the same points that I feel about the Two Eco. I strongly considered the Prime but I didn’t like the looks of it and didn’t want to give up the 5th seat and trunk space since we’ll take the occasional road trip with it and we have several kids. Plus my commute is 22 miles so I wasn’t in a total EV range for my commute. The Two Eco was the next best thing and also came in cheaper up front (though the $4500 credit would have been nice). I will likely get the next revision that supports an EV range greater than 40, until then the Two Eco has everything I want. The extra cost for the softex, navigation an Qi weren’t worth it IMO. Though the 11” radio looks nice, but way too expensive (would get a prime at that point).

That sounds a bit radical. Based on a hunch, or are you an expert? We are always interested in your opinions and a bit of background is useful.

 

No matter which you get, you still get 8 (or 10) year warranty on the battery

I guess I feel a bit the same - the only Li-ION batteries I've had have been Laptops and Smartphones - which don't last long. BUT - TOYOTA has much stricter safeguards against over/undercharging than Laptop powersupplies.

And - NiMH are the only option in almost all the world except a couple of USA models and Japan.

 

I though Toyota used Li-Ion overseas in Prius v, I think. @Tideland Prius can verify or correct me.

 

True, our v is Li-ION - just thinking Gen 4.

 

Our v is Ni-MH but our Plugin Prius was Li-Ion. They have not been in service here long enough or in large enough numbers to prove reliability.
