    Angela -

I just saw this thread tonight thanks to hdrygas's bump, and wanted to let you know that you, your father, and your whole family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Please let us know if there's anything your Prius family can do for you.

Eeep! Sorry, got busy with work and stuff.

Latest update: My dad's latest CT scan confirmed what the doctors had suspected would/had occured: there is cancer riddling his lungs too. Right after his surgery the docs had said that without chemo he has 3 months left. It's been a month (we are now into the second), and his body is still too weak and depleted to survive the chemo. He is still not gaining weight and occasionally looses some. He's regressing back to his pre-surgery state (but in a slightly different way since he can still eat normally --no blockages), as the cancer continues to spread unchecked (they had only been able to remove the tumor blocking his colon, the rest had to remain). Each trip to the doctor takes a lot out of him, and leaves him wasted for a couple days (and depressed).

Thank you, Danny. Prayers are always helpful. :) It seems about the only thing we can do for him at the moment.

Angela, there is not a lot anyone can say or do that will make your road an easy one to travel. when my brother died someone published a poem that really helped me a lot. i hope you can use this.

    Death is nothing at all
I have only slipped away into the next room
I am I and you are you
Whatever we were to each other
    That we still are
Call me by my old familiar name
Speak to me in the easy way
    Which you always used
Put no difference in your tone
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow
    Laugh as we always laughed
At the little jokes we enjoyed together
Pray smile, think of me, pray for me
Let my name be ever the household word
    That it always was
Let it be spoken without effort
Without the trace of a shadow in it
Life means all that it ever meant
It is the same as it ever was
    There is unbroken continuity
Why should I be out of mind
Because I am out of sight?
    I am waiting for you
    Somewhere very near
    Just around the corner
    All is well

Oh wow, that poem is really touching. Thank you. Lacking a printer (desk too small), I shall write it down.

Thanks, guys. It does help to know that I have people to talk to when I need to. Cancer is such a horrible way to go.

I lost one brother suddenly to heart disease and the other to cancer, my sister had metastasis at her 5th year anniversary.
Thankfully these days people believe in medication for pain. I can remeber being a brand new nurse (25 years ago) and thinking it was so crazy to be afraid of killing someone with morphine when they were dying of cancer.
I hope your dad can be comfortable and that you guys are able to make the most of the time you have left. Cancer can be long and painful, but can give you time to resolve things.
    Our thought are with you.

Update: my dad went in for surgery on Thursday to install a port into his vains to prevent the constant chemo injections from collapsing his vains. He went in early in the morning, and was out later that evening. Now he has to heal before they can do the chemo, so it will be a few more weeks.

We are with you. This is a necessary next step. Have you got in touch with the various resources available to you. Keep me posted my wife is an Oncology nurse. She really knows a lot about this subject. She has just moved on to being a Hospice nurse. You can use us as a resource. Let me know we will help when we can.

    Another Update:

I was just informed that my dad is going in for his first round of chemo tomorrow (monday). The surgery for the port 3 days ago, and the first round of chemo tomorrow, are both being rushed. His body is not ready. He is neither fully healed from the port surgery, nor are his body's reserves stocked up....he's still depleted. But he has no choice; we are fast approaching Month #3 and the sands of time are quickly running out.
