This is an interesting thread. Some folks love Chevron, some Mobil, some Shell, most don't care and go to their local "git and go" and fill up. But what do all of these gasolines have in common? They come from the exact same refineries. Find a map of the gasoline pipelines which send gas around our country and you'll see that the Big Oil Companies own most of the pipelines and they share these pipes when necessary. I live in the Midwest, far from oil refineries on the coasts and yet I get all the differing types of gasoline from the major players. Yet in my area there is only one tanker truck loading facility. All types of trucks go there to load up. Mobil, Shell, Chevron, and mom and pop gas stations, plus the bulk gas haulers. All of these trucks are filled up from the same tank. So when getting filled, the gasoline is exactly the same, only the additives are different. There are additive tanks and when a Shell truck rolls up, the additive which is mandated my Shell is added to the tanker truck's tank.

Now, if you live on the coast, they yes, you probably getting a truck directly from a refinery which produces the gas you prefer. But the farther inland you live, you will be getting generic gas with additives added after the gas arrives at the terminal.

    Just my two cents.,

I use BG Products 44k every six months (or about 12 k miles for me).

Think of it as concentrated Techron(y).

I'm trying a bottle of Canadian Tire's MotoMaster Formula 1 Extra-Strength Fuel Injector Cleaner. It's a 473 milliliter (16 oz ) bottle; it was on half-price sale for $6.99 (CDN). The recommended dosage for a 45 liter (11.9 US gallon) 3rd gen Prius tank is around 85~90 milliliters (just shy of 3 oz), and they suggest to add this to every 3rd or 4th tank. (The instruction on the bottle says one ounce treats 16 liters. I think the metric policeman just had a nervous breakdown on this one, gave up.) Five plus "doses" for around $7 is very cheap. It has PEA (PolyEtherAmine) which I've read is a good injector cleaner.

I've done one dose, got a mere 15 kms on that tank, and handed the car over to our son and daughter-in-law, swapped with them; they were having major problems with their car. When we got the Prius back it was down to about 1/3 tank remaining, and the fuel economy display at 5.3 liters per 100 kilometers (44 mpg US), and when I refueled and calculated I got 5.6 liters per 100 kilometers (42 mpg). I put this down to their driving style, constant AC use.

A couple of days back I refueled again (our tank); displayed was at 4.2 liters per 100 kilometer (56 mpg US), and calculated at 4.5 liters per 100 kilometer (52 mpg US).

I'm figuring to do this every spring and fall, around the same time as the biannual oil change. (y)

Note, the bottle has a tricky little dispenser bottle on the side; I played around with it, found it was very involved getting it full, and considering I would need more than one of those little bottles, decided to cobble my own, premeasured bottle.

Loosen the cap on the small bottle, tighten the cap on the big bottle and squeeze it.

    CHEVRON WITH TECHRON

It’s proven. No gasoline gives you better mileage than Chevron with Techron.

I rotate among those three top-tier brands. Each may have a different additive package, and everyrhing will be covered.

Every 100,000 miles I use a bottle of Techron, whether it needs it or not.

I wish we could get better gas close to where I live. The top tier list has about a 98% overlap with "brands that decided to take their ball and go home" in my neighborhood.

We do have one remaining Exxon, and there is a Sunoco nearby but filling up there takes an hour because they haven't changed the filters in 3 years.

Until I retired, I was driving 30,000 miles a year, that is what made a Prius such a good idea.

And where I live, I'm surrounded by gas starions. Constant traffic. Noise. Crowds. Crazy people.

    I'll trade ya.

I think I like Chevron with Techron the best. Its a bit more expensive but thats ok. I refill at odd times, sometimes just topping off the tank when its only down 1/4 or 1/2. I like to keep the car near full most of the time... you never know when the "Big One" is going to hit here.

Up here Chevron are the only (brand name) stations with free air still. On the flip side, it seems like every time I've used their air the last few years, the pressure's been really anemic, barely able to raise the pressure. I mostly use a simple bicycle pump, cold tires in the garage, easier.

Ok. Don't laugh. But my ICE does seem quieter since I put in a few gallons of the Shell "Nitro". :D And the engine feels peppier, too.

This is the third day driving since I topped off the tank. I don't think it's a placebo effect, but who knows, I may be going nuts!:ROFLMAO:
