That's exactly the problem. I can't afford to buy a new car every 3 years. I want to keep it for 10 years at least and 20 years ideally. (Why else do I buy Toyota?) If the rust builds up to be a problem in 10 years then I am doomed. :(

No its a problem now I see that big castle nut thats corroded real bad. In about 2 years you will not be able to get that nut off.

It so easy to prevent all that. Just buy a can of PB Blaster CSP (corrosion spray protector) and spray everything down up front and the suspension in the back. Light spray. The car will last years longer and will be very quiet in its later years. Light spray on the outside of all electrical connectors really helps to keep moisture out of the connector. When you need to work on it just wipe it off.
Brand new. Only thing you can't spray is the exhaust and the disc brake hubs. Everything else is fair game. Its a machine.

The CSP is great. No smell and its actually a light grease that stays put. There's so many moving parts on a car and they all need to be lubricated from door hinges to hood locks to control arms and all suspension parts.

Down here in Florida if you don't lube your tools in there toolbox when you put them away they rust real bad rom the humidity.
There's not one speck of rust under my 5 year old Prius.

    I hate rust.

No rust that I can see. And if I can't see it, it's the same as having none.

Is this the same stuff you spray on rubber parts or different?

Haven't looked. So if I see any rust, am I supposed to put baking soda and lime juice on it? ;)

No I don't spray CSP on rubber although it will not hurt at all but this product is much better:

Black Magic Car Care Products - Black Magic Pro-Shine Protectant

    A forum thread of CSP:

And here's best stuff yo use on that tricky trim around the MFD. At Toyota parts counter:

Thanks but I was thinking of the rubber boots underneath the car, not rubber trims.

Moulding is rubber. Boots are rubber.
