Yeah, we are "some people" as well. Also, if we get it in 2017, we can get our refund a lot quicker (March-ish) than waiting until 2018 taxes (if the credit is not going away).

I guess for some expense you can put an upscale 3rd party audio system with CarPlay...not sure abut Prime but I assume so

Yeah the complaints I listed weren’t deal breakers. Also, not sure what the ioniq PHEV is supposed to be like. It was supposed to come out 3 months ago and never materialized.

My co-worker has a 2017 Ioniq hybrid, and it's actually really nice. It will likely be similar, and they're doing the exact same 8.8kWh battery as the Prime.

Thank you everyone for your insights! It does seem like a perfect fit.

the biggest differences might be the 5 seats and larger hatch.

When the cap imposed by the state and the floor driven by consumer demand coincide, that sure makes the 'price negotiation' step much easier and quicker.

Yeah, the change to a 4 seater might be an issue since we have a 4 year old but he came with us on the test drive and he loved it. We don't normally drive more than 1 extra passenger. "5" seats with a carseat in the back is only really 4 seats :p

If you can live with 4 seats, and smallish cargo, it seems to be good fit for your lifestyle. Other option would be Honda clarity plug in with longer EV range.

We have roadside assistance with our insurance. But good to know there's no spare.

Clarity PHEV starts $5k higher :O We would have to have a really good lease to afford that.

Lease on PHEV, Prime or Clarity would not qualify for the tax incentive. I haven't seen real Clarity yet, but Honda seems to have it aimed for more luxurious car buyers for sure.

Sounds like a reasonable plan. Charge time is quoted at 2 hours 10 minutes but of course it'll vary depending on temperature of the battery and whether those charging stations are dedicated circuits or whether two charging cords from the same station share the electrons (i.e. if the station is capable of 6.6kW, if there are two cars parked there and using the same station, does each get 3.3kW or do they each get the full 6.6kW). Now the Prime is only capable of 3.3kW so you're fine either way but if the station output is lower, it just might take longer, that's all.

Note that you can enable remote climate so you can pre-cool the car before you return using the A/C button on the key fob.

There is a CHG function so you can use the engine to charge the battery up to 80% if you're on the highway or such. So far, we've determined it's more fuel efficient to use the CHG Mode on the highway as opposed to lower speeds.

Also, your son might like the centre console. You can use it to store his toys or any other knick-knacks.

Yeah I know the tax incentive would go to the leasing company. However, many pass on the savings to the customer with much lower monthly payments. Some do not, though. It just depends.

Question Tideland, do all 3 trims have the remote climate control? I thought it was only the advanced which would be over their budget.

All three have remote AC on the fob which can be activated if the battery allows it. Only the advanced has it on the smartphone app as well.
