I agree, if you look a the Camry's ratings they're the same, provided you get the side airbags.

You're just seeing WHY side airbags were invented. Find me a car without side airbags that isn't an SUV that doesn't have a poor or marginal side impact rating.

So, don't cheap out and you'll be fine.

The Camry. Side impact with side airbags? Good. Without side airbags? Poor. Head restraint? Marginal with cloth, poor with leather.

Same as the Prius, maybe even slightly worse off in the head restraint department.
