Door/body damage - concerned about water intrusion

Hi - my 2017 has over 300,000 miles on it and was gifted to my more inexperienced daughter, who has badly scratched it for the 2nd time on the passenger side (parking garage challenges). She lives in Atlanta and I live in Jacksonville so I have not seen it firsthand yet, but coincidentally am going to visit her tomorrow.

We don't mind the terrible scratches because it is her beater car now, but, if you look at the circled section, it seems like that might be cracked and I'm concerned about water getting in there. Since it is pretty low, I don't know if there is anything behind there that is important

I'll be taking it to a body shop for an opinion, but does anyone know what is sitting right behind there, and am I right to be concerned about water getting in?
