Wow, this door pops off just like my old Camry. Believe it or not, in highschool I installed car stereo systems for all the boys. I designed their subwoofer boxes to recommended cubic feet, installed all their components and did all the electrical.

The installation looks great bxzcd, I had completely forgotten the word dynamat even existed until I read this post =) Brings back lots of memories.

I want to put new speakers in my Prius, but I'm not sure if I'm ambitious enough to do it myself now that I'm older.

    I think I'm in love... :p

Older?! I'm your age lol and while some of the joys of youth are long forgotten, and ambition is reined in, we are far from old

Hahaha, my ambitions have long since changed. Lying on my back in crammed places running hot wire isn't quite so appealing anymore. My obsession now are piano, financials and world economies. www.youtube.com/RideyIPY you can see one of my listed obsessions first hand... congrats =P

Aww, you're all grown up now *tear* but you're still not too old to have fun! Of course, what's fun to me now is what you used to like :)

Thanks for the pix. Just an FYI, standard 6x9 speakers will not just drop into that opening. First I improvised with a piece of 1/8 luan paneling because I didn't have any MDF. Then I got an piece of 1/2 MDF and made mounting brackets similar to yours.

Great write up. I'm looking to upgrade all the door speakers (and perhaps the skwakers) but I want to amplify them. From what ive read as a lurker on this site an audio control l7 summation box (or equivalent) is a good way to get all the signals summed and the output into RCA ( I can handle the rest at that point). That said, I have yet to see a properly labeled wiring schematic which highlights which wires to tap Into in order to retain all blue tooth functionality. Do any of you have this? I am looking for this before I start hacking into my current non-Jbl 2012 prius v and get over my head. Thanks!

Next time go to your local walmart/kmart/lowes ect. and pick up a couple of HDPE cutting boards. They make great speaker baffles. Waterproof and easily workable with your normal woodworking tools!;)

As an update, MDF does not do well in the doors. There was a buzzing in my left front door and took off the door panel and the MDF has been absorbing moisture. There is place called PVC speaker adapter and I will ordering from them to replace the mountings before winter.

Make sure you get solid plastic adapters, not those ones made from multiple pieces like a jigsaw puzzle. They resemble wood but are actually plastic.

I think that the tweeters are 3" and the rear door speakers are 6.5".

The tweeters are more like 1.75 or 2" but the space will accommodate 3.5" with little trimming

Someone out here has a template to cut your own tweeter adapters.

Wouldn't happen to have the time to post a picture or explain a little more would you? You are the only person I could Google that has remedied the tinniness of prius doors.

Have you had a chance to install the tweeters? If so, how did it go?

    I'm curious why you didn't replace the 6 x 9 with more 6 x 9 instead of the 6.5?
