I do? No, I don't. I discount, as you put it, some of the Bible, yes. Because, it's not all correct. And so what? The core of it is. But, for you, and many others, it's all or nothing. While I tend to think that the parts that are true, are more then enough.

I am not trying to fight, despite how it reads. I am trying to get you to open your eyes, and see how you are hurting your cause. How, you turn more off to God, then turn on to God.

When it comes to attacking, you really did start it first.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(windstrings @ Mar 26 2007, 11:26 AM) </div>
I know, I know I should not ask you, but what are you going on here? I am not at all sure what you are speaking about here.

And, ALAN, it's 'Christian, not 'christian. Please. Try to get that right. For one who calls himself a Christian, you often don't spell that right...Spelink. It's Not Just Fer Brakfast.

(spelled wrong on purpose)

Oh! Well, my mother thought that I should not marry my wife, since she was not a 'Catholic' and the funny thing is, that my wife's church thought she should not be 'unevenly yoked' to me, since in their eyes, I was not 'saved' at the time.

Here I am, an escaped Catholic, who is not welcome by either side...it's amazing that my wife married me as well. Some of her 'Christian' friends thought she should not. Now, 15 years later, I am Preacher, and those friends are divorced.

True dat. ALAN needs to heed this scripture:
Ephesians 4:15 (TMSG)
God wants us to grow up, to know the whole truth and tell it in love—like Christ in everything. We take our lead from Christ, who is the source of everything we do.

But, since that is not in KJV, he won't listen...maybe I should put it here as well.

Ephesians 4:15 (KJV)
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ

I'd be careful about holding up my successful marriage as a proof of personal supremacy over those not-quite-so-Christian-and-now-divorced "friends." Careful about it. What I meant was, I wouldn't. You may or may not have worked hard on that marriage you now have, but do you believe for a moment it is something you earned?

I would instead be grateful for my successful marriage, and prayerful for those who made their promises and then didn't keep them.

And you capitalize "Christian," dude, but you don't capitalize "preacher" unless it's your first name or something... Thus says Former English Major.

<strike>And Maggiedd asked a perfectly legitimate question that has been totally waysided.</strike> <-- I didn't say that.

Oh, I was picking on ALAN. He is all about being a Christian, but he doesn't capitalize it...I capitalize incorrectly a lot of the time...it's a way I post, which, is no where near proper English, I knows that.
I guess if you did not get that, I am sorry it was misinterpreted.

As to my marriage, we have 15 years of marriage, with ups and downs, of course, but we have made it thus far. I should have pointed out, that the 'friends' that my wife had, often said to her, (and in my presence, no less), that we would be divorced in no time, since I was not saved at the time. And I find it ironic that of those people that said that, they are all divorced; and they were all saved.

I am grateful of my successful marriage, despite how I almost messed it up once.

ALAN, I just wanted to say hi ALAN ALAN ALAN!!!

If I shout your name ALAN, maybe I will sound like I am greeting you, ALAN, with overbearing authority and condesention ALAN, thus minimizing anything you might say in response ALAN!!!

I therefore claim superiority over you in this conversation ALAN.

Yeah ALAN... wow was that a smackdown... take that ALAN!!

ALAN, hope you have a great day ALAN.

It's true. He is. But for the wrong reasons...I am not SHOUTING Alan, as much as I am just capitalizing it, and I am, in turn, making fun of ALAN, whom uses that name, because I am not 100% sure that windstrings real name is ALAN. I haven't been sure of that for some time.

If it is his real name, then I would just type 'Alan', that's all.

Every now and then in life I have a challenging conversation with someone. When 8 of 10 sentences supporting their point of view start with my first name, or end with my first name and the tone is aggressive.... I feel as if the first name is being used to intimidate, condescend, and otherwise bully the conversation. That's definately what's going on here with this thread.

If someone has to resort to that to leverage a point of view, it's fairly well established that the point of view itself is weak.

This is FHOP, so that's fine to do... It's also fine to point it out and have a little fun with it.

Yes, the word 'bull' came to mind too.. now that you point it out... ;)

I think anyone who's followed this conversation front to back should get a medal, be put in a rubber room, or in some way get a lifetime achievement award.

Of course, this may be just the beginning of this thread. When we get to 1800 pages of discussion, page 58 will look like a starting point.

I think Paul taught that if you are not married... don't seek it.. because its better to serve the Lord without distraction.... but if you are . don't seek to be loosed.. because He that finds a wife finds a good thing.

But then there are those that attempt to do the former, when they really should do the latter.

(1 Cor 7:8 NKJV) But I say to the unmarried and to the widows: It is good for them if they remain even as I am;
(1 Cor 7:9 NKJV) but if they cannot exercise self-control, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.

Another issue.... why is it noble to abstain from the "pleasures and distractions" of marriage, but then get perverted with men and little boys?... thats the part thats really sick and perverted.. the other is just bad doctrine especially when that behaviour is condoned or tolerated until the "public" finally gets the news media on it and the funds drop..... then they get rid of them just to survive lest they have no more financial support?... Should a church be obeying God.. rather than what ever pays the bills?

Like I said.... there are many people that attend the catholic churches and God attempts to meet them where they are at in his love.. but I do blame "religion" that claims to hold the keys of freedom and only offer bondage.

People walk into so many churches broken, wounded, and beaten down expecting to find rest, deliverance and freedom..... when all they find are social programs and ritual.... then they walk away saying "been there.. done that" and the "church" that has misrepresented the Lords gospel goes on.... meanwhile the person drifts off confused and let down getting angry with God for not finding them in thier misery when they attempted to find him.

(Prov 25:14 KJV) Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.

<span style="color:#000000">(2 Pet 2:17 NKJV) These are wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.
(2 Pet 2:18 NKJV) For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error.
(2 Pet 2:19 NKJV) While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage.
(2 Pet 2:20 NKJV) For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.
(2 Pet 2:21 NKJV) For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.
(2 Pet 2:22 NKJV) But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: "A dog returns to his own vomit," and, "a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire."

Funny how today.. so many scriptures just seem to "harsh".. so we don't use them?

I never hear this stuff preached over the pulpit anymore?

I wonder why is was appropriate to preach back then and now its not?

Yes, God will hold the sinner accountable who refuses to repent and accept the Love of God, but he will hold the church and the pastors of those churches even more accountable...much more.

Here is only one passage that shows Gods frustration with churches as we see today.

(Ezek 34:6 NKJV) "My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and on every high hill; yes, My flock was scattered over the whole face of the earth, and no one was seeking or searching for them."
(Ezek 34:7 NKJV) 'Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the LORD:
(Ezek 34:8 NKJV) "as I live," says the Lord GOD, "surely because My flock became a prey, and My flock became food for every beast of the field, because there was no shepherd, nor did My shepherds search for My flock, but the shepherds fed themselves and did not feed My flock";
(Ezek 34:9 NKJV) 'therefore, O shepherds, hear the word of the LORD!
(Ezek 34:10 NKJV) 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "Behold, I am against the shepherds, and I will require My flock at their hand; I will cause them to cease feeding the sheep, and the shepherds shall feed themselves no more; for I will deliver My flock from their mouths, that they may no longer be food for them."
(Ezek 34:11 NKJV) 'For thus says the Lord GOD: "Indeed I Myself will search for My sheep and seek them out.

Many of todays modern churches are only worried about if the bills are being paid and only address issues that come to them......
Its getting harder and harder to find those that love the sheep.

Hirelings that only do what is required to recieve their paycheck all the while expecting others to do thier day job and then serve the church when off duty and give of thier privatet time without pay "which is noble to do so", but then they themselves won't lift a finger if they are asked to do anything while off duty.

I've often wondered who would recieve the bigger reward in heaven?
the person who comes of his own free will to sweep the church without pay, or the pastor who does nothing unless its in his job description and recieves pay?

I think I know the answer to that one.

(Mat 6:1 NKJV) "Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven.
(Mat 6:2 NKJV) "Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
(Mat 6:3 NKJV) "But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
(Mat 6:4 NKJV) "that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.
(Mat 6:5 NKJV) "And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
(Mat 6:6 NKJV) "But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
(Mat 6:7 NKJV) "And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
(Mat 6:8 NKJV) "Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.

Humm..... well there was some discussion about sharing names... many were condemned and belittled for not sharing thier name while others chose not to as sound wisdom against people on the net they really dont' know and trust.

At first, using the "first" name seemed to be a term of endearment, but now its turned into scolding.... kinda like when dad called you by your "whole" name..you knew it wasn't a good thing!... LOL!

Its harder and painful to take abuse from those you thought loved you... is easier when you knew they never did anyway!

(Prov 18:19 NKJV) A brother offended is harder to win than a strong city, And contentions are like the bars of a castle.
