Is there any make to get copies of the the daily or monthly mileage and mpg info displayed on the console?

(Other than copying it all down by hand, of course)

You don't want what the display millage, you want the real millage. When you fill up write the odometer reading on the receipt and save it. Periodically punch the receipts into Excel and calculate the millage.

Use FUELLY - it keeps good track but not daily (unless you filled daily .

    Or a series of photos:

I simply take pics of the charts showing the costs and the savings vs my previous Gen3 fuel consumption. I could do that in Excel, but too lazy.
For everything else I have my spreadsheet and I rely on tools like Fuelly or Spritmonitor (also available in English). Both tools have iPhone apps.

Moreover, the display is about 5% optimistic.

A good question, it would be great if the car could send that data to an app or to the usb port. Even if it is optimistic I find I can get a useful graph of mpg against distance which helps me visualise the effect of cold starts.

Maybe someone with an OBD scanner will know whether the information is accessible through the scanner? I don't know what format it would be, if it's formatted at all.

Apparently there is an iPhone app called Enginelink that can gather data and can use Torque PIDs. Perhaps its log files have the information.
Outdoor Apps In The Palm Of Your Hand

obddata.log – Raw data log of ELM327 communication for debug purpose. Can be used to exam and test ELM327 commands in conjecture with obdcmd.ini
userdata.log – User log file in csv format (but log extension). Can be imported into Excel for further processing.
    Access the files:
All files can be accessed by using iTunes File Sharing. userdata.log can be sent with email in the app.
