People got along fine with hand cranked engines and manual spark advance for years too.

When were the old geezers accustomed to those methods mandated to cease using them?

The batteries in the TPMS sending units are intended to be good for five years, and, at least on the early systems in GM cars, are not replaceable. Instead, you have to buy the whole unit, at $125 each, plus labor to remount and balance the tire after installing the new sending unit. Something tells me that Toyota's systems are much the same.
BTW, Charles Kettering patented a self starter in 1915, and they were used in most cars by 1920. Most road-going passenger cars produced in the ensuing 90+ years have had pneumatic tires, which required that owners occasionally check the tire pressures. I'll rely completely on a computerized tire psi system when they pry my tire guage "from my cold dead hands." ;)

This is exactly what I paid for one for my kid's corolla too. Didn't know it matched the size in Prius. Good to know.

I plan to share my Dad's Corolla spare. I'll take it with me on long road trips. For those keeping track, that's 2009 and up Corolla.

I priced a full size steel wheel and tires mounted from tirerack for $111 plus tax and shipping. I think that's the best way to go unless you can find a spare for significantly less like $35.

I think tire rack deal is good, I am not sure if I can search for Totalled spare. What is the best source for getting jack and other tools?

There's already a jack that comes with the car. It's under the driver's seat. See page 449 in the manual.

Here's a search already done for you: Search Results
I've narrowed it down to California, you'll have to scan the results to find a salvager who's actually close to you.
Apparently this compact is also used in Matrix and really old Celicas.

Btw, I couldn't find any real "deal" on TireRack, but pricing out the cheapest tire and wheel comes to $111 before tax and shipping. You also end up with a full-size wheel which weighs more and takes up more space.
Salvage seems like the way to go. IMHO.

it's probably not enough weight that you would notice it unless you were doing many test runs over the same course under the same conditions.

I seriously doubt that the difference could be measured with odometer and either the MFD or by gas pump readout during fill-up.

Thanks for the link and details. I guess one that is going to work for me is Pleasanton shop, I saw one for 2006 corolla, will see if it matches the rest of the details.

Wonder if there's a decent feedback channel to Toyota for something like this? Lack of a spare takes this car off my list, and has left a lot of adopters frustrated and scrambling for a solution.

i doubt it. it would be nice if they offered it as a reasonably priced option. more money for them and more cars too. hopefully, there will be more room in the gen IV and a place to put it.

Well if they made a raised floor to hold the battery and a spare, there would be a ton of people complaining about the lack of space. (see the Energi threads.) Maybe the new Gen4 will have more room for the battery or battery tech will get better.

I don't blame Toyota, I knew what I was getting and I would rather have a spare I can throw in everyonce in awhile than loose space all the time.

Here is a video of the Tire system, incase you have to use it. I also carry my own plug kit and air pump. (there is a thread about this here)
