It will be fine, just make sure that if you have a flat on the front of car put a regular tire from the rear to the front and the mini spare on the back, so that tires on front are same size.

I have not physically removed a tire yet to mount the donut but I will do this in the near future.

This is also what was mentioned to me at the place I purchased the spare donut tire.

My dealer did that for me and it fit T125/70/D16 96M slightly smaller but will work, just get your other tire fixed as soon as you can and back on your car.

I wonder if the difference is due to model year? I took my numbers from the online manual for 2012 Prius on Toyotas website…

My wife's 2010 Prius with 17 inch tires has had 2 sidewall damaged tires that needed replacing. Luckily that car has the donut spare. When I purchased my 2012 PIP, I puchased a 2011 donut spare for $130 off eBay. Then had a custom light blue strong cardboard box made to fit the donut. It sits in the back and yes takes up trunk space. I rather have the piece of mind knowing if I have sidewall damage or a blowout, I don't have to wait for Toyota Cares or AAA. Plus I can take the damaged tire to Discount Tire on my own schedule. I've read car manaufactures are dropping the donut spares believing a blow out or sidewall damage is a rare event and it's a space/weight/cost saving issue. As long as we still have nails, curbs to hit, and other road hazards tires are still going to get damaged beyond what a tire refill kit can handle.

This sounds scary! I am living in the Bay Area too. If it happens in the middle of the night, can I tell the tow truck to tow the PIP to the dealer, and I call a cab to home? I don't think anyone in the dealer will receive your PIP after they are closed.

The same day I received my spare, the rear driver side tire started to leak air. I visually check the tire and I don't see any screws/nails that could be causing the problem so I am taking it to the dealer tomorrow. So glad I got the spare for peace of mind.

I think most of the dealers do have a night owl box. So, you'd have to follow the instructions for the nightowl. Otherwise, you'd have to drop the car in their lot and call them in the morning. For me, the dealership did have the night owl/early bird box, I am guessing it is fairly safe as dealers have lot of their cars out in the lot.

When I bought my Prius, the dealer and Toyota sent me tons of email and letters asking my experience of buying the Toyota car. I think it is worth it to send a complaint to Toyota to let them know your Toyota Care nightmare.

Some tow operators will take your vehicle to their own facility and drop it off to the dealer the next morning. When I had this done on a Sunday evening there was no surcharge for storage or the extra towing.

So went to the dealer and apparently there was a shrapnel in the tire and because of its location, it was not possible to fix it. They had to replace it. I have been commuting 80 miles A day for the last 5 years and never had a flat tire. The minute I get a car without a spare, I get a flat within the first month and less the 1500 miles on odometer. So glad I got the spare.

    Dislike!!
For me also, I had a similar feeling even though I did have couple of flats in last 5 years, it still felt pretty bad to get it within 2 weeks of new car without spare :)

Carrying a donut on the cargo floor would stink a little bit, plus lose most of the underfloor storage which I like.

I got a puncture in August that brought PSI down to 26. Made it home to put donut on, take tire to Toyota which was patched for $35. Lucky day.

Sorry to the OP. I've been stuck in a work vehicle on 880 South near Davis St. Some places have almost no shoulder area. And cars don't slow down very much. Dangerous and scary place to be, especially with your children.
