Other than myopia, all I've had is dry eye. I hate dry eye. I'm super sensitive in the eye area to the point where I can't even hold still for the glaucoma test. If I get cataracts, I'll need some serious happy sauce to tolerate that procedure. :(

I am so thankful that I was seeing a retinal specialist as followup for other issues and he is convinced he saved me from a detached retina that was just starting. I know he rushed me into unexpected laser surgery when he saw the start.

same here. had a tiny blur in the outside corner of my eye. called my doc, he rushed me to an eye exam, eye doc rushed me to surgeon, surgery the next day.

it is definitely one of those things better caught sooner than later.

They use some serioius "sleepy sauce" and you don't feel a thing.

As for dry eye, I've only found one brand of drops that doesn't make the overall situation worse: Thera Tears.

Thanks for the tips. Yeah, my wife had both her eyes done last summer. She was pretty docile. :)

I have a couple brands I've found that work for me, but you're right that some are worse. If they don't have the right ingredients they not only don't lube, they flush out more oil.

There is a treatment that's available at my eye doctor and it's supposedly very effective and a permanent fix. But it's about $3,000 and insurance doesn't cover it.

I'm still alive. I just get occupied with other things and forget. (email subscription reminder) Yeah, I'm 22. I was just about raised by TV and computer. (starting at 8 years old?) I worry for the toddlers I see with tablets. The outside of my windshield is pretty clean, but there might be something on the inside. I noticed that some blue and purplish headlights will actually light up my windshield slightly. I use rain X on the outside, not sure what to use on the inside.

My aunt (25?) had some sort of eye correction (don't know much about glasses n such) I was talking to her and it came up and she said something like one eye is slightly better then the other and her night vision isn't that good. I think I'm too scared to have something like that done. I hear worst case you end up blind. The only time there is any kind of blur in my vision is when I get a migraine. (migraine aura) I've had 2 bad ones where I had to go to the hospital. 2014, The first was for a week because they were trying to figure out what was going on. 2016? 2nd was a couple hour visit after trying to ride it out for a day.

I've never been to the doctor (anyone) for my eyes. I tried to buy some reading glasses 1.75 off amazon to see if they would help me (I tend to blame my vision for my lack of reading books) and found they're too strong. If I have them something like 6-10 inch away they seem to help... but that's not on my face. My vision seems to see snow or a transparent version of a static channel on the tv. I also have random black things dart that I think is a fly or something (hasn't happened in a while) I also see random colors at times too, purple, blue, yellow, maybe green.... Yeah I need to see a doctor.... Just wasn't sure if that's just how powerful other peoples lights are.

Is that going to be a doctors office type place or something like LensCrafters, Vision Works, etc. I just have to find time to do it, next. (I'm weird about taking time off from work)

you definitely need to make an appointment with an ophthalmologist. a full check up might be a good idea as well. don't ignore your health. many things caught early can be cured or reduced, but caught late can be a big problem.

not trying to scare you, i remember being 22, but don't take your health for granted.

    all the best.

Yeah we watched a family movie with the grandkids, only: me and my wife are the only ones watching it; the little darlings are all on their phones, with ear buds... o_O

Again, a lot of symptoms sounds like what your eyes are like after belladonna drops: dilated pupils that won't "stop down" in bright light. Definitely see the optometrist.

I personally never liked RainX but a lot of people do.
You should use NOTHING on the inside of the windshield after it is cleaned.

    AND......have to say:
The weird thing here is: Some of the symptoms you describe here could be signs of a SERIOUS but treatable eye disease.
You NEED to see a real eye doctor, not an eye glass fitter.

And you need to do that NOW, regardless of your reluctance to take time off from work.
    Honestly.....seriously.

I agree with the others that this is worth checking. The moving dots sound like floaters -- usually nothing to worry about. And the random colors sound like migraine auras. You can sometimes get them without the headache. Happened to me once and I've never had an actual migraine. Very alarming!! The snow/static is the strange part to me.

Even if the doctor finds nothing wrong at all, you'll feel better about it and also have a good baseline for comparison with future eye exams. But an optometrist isn't enough. You should see an actual eye doctor. I wish you well.

Oy, I've got that right now. Almost full circular array, sawtooth edge, mostly white, with some rainbow. Get them every few months. No pain.

Bummer. Glad there's no pain. What was really odd for us was I got mine the day after my wide had it and it was a first for both of us. (And last, so far.) Hers and mine looked very different and neither lasted more than about 10-15 minutes. Hers was mainly silver and mine was a very colorful arch in both eyes, but stronger in the right. The other oddity was that she used to get migraine headaches but never had the aura before. Our eye doctor confirmed there was nothing to worry about.

    ...That's not too comforting....
My wife has had chronic migraines ever since the H1N1 epidemic a few years ago. I have no desire to get that too. :(

The aura itself is one specific form of migraine, even when no headache pain is present:

    Scintillating scotoma - Wikipedia

I've had many of these, never with any actual pain but with enough visual disturbance to be unable to drive safely. The very first time this happened, I was afraid it might be a stroke.

Yes, that's true. Thanks for adding it for anyone who doesn't know. I was sloppy saying "actual migraine." "Stereotypical" might have been more accurate. (y)

My initial thought was a retina problem, but stroke crossed my mind. Mine was at the top of my vision, so I was able to see past it and work. After a while, I noticed it was gone and wasn't quite sure when it went away although I did notice it gradually fading a few minutes after it began.

I quickly figured out that mine was happening identically in both eyes, grew to cover most of one visual side, but stopped right at the visual centerline. This exonerated the retinas and pointed directly to one hemisphere of the brain.

During later episodes, I found that the flashing border wipes out the fine detail needed for reading when the disturbance crosses that part of my central visual field, and can hide good size objects where-ever it occurs. That is when I decided that driving wasn't safe during these episodes.
