I just had to replace my engine in an 07 Prius...we got a used one with 60,000 miles on it... And exchanged for the one that was throwing every error code possiable... No joke... It runs great now no noise coming from it no loosing power and the dash lights are off but now I am only getting 32 mpg compaired to the 45 I was getting..is this because the engine needs to break in where it has been setting on a shelf? I am confused and concerneed... Thanks for any information

Who put it in? Maybe they used heavy grade motor oil? And check the level?

You would need to give it some time to get a good estimate. If you are using the heater, this normally would keep your engine running longer and use more gas. If your car has been sitting for a while, the tire pressure may also be low.

Your car has to be completely warmed up to get the best gas mileage.

I was referring to about a month or 2, not 9 days. You would also need to keep records from filling up. Looking at the "estimate" on the screen isn't always correct.

Did you put in the correct NGK or Denso plugs?

    You can try the following:

    Clean throttle body
    Clean MAF sensor
    Check air filter
    Check tire pressure
    Check alignment

If you did not get NGK or Denso plugs, that could be "part" of the reason your mileage is not all that great. I still think you have to drive it a little longer and reset the MPG counter to get a "fresh start"

There are a number of plugs that are "compatible" with the Prius. If it's not made by NGK or Denso, it's probably an autolite or some inferior plug. It should say on your receipt what plugs you got.

As you drive it more, it will improve.

I wouldn't worry until it throws a code. No codes mean everything is good. I thought it might be your 12v battery but it would account for over 10 mpg drop. You can check the 12 v battery's health, just for fun.
