I have a 2004 Prius and I replace the spark plugs with Bosch Iridium.
I got them from O'Reiley's for $9.00 each.

I have gotten good results on the fuel mileage.

Be sure to practice good hypermileing.

I would change the trans fluid and the Invert coolant.

Trans because it was exposed to alot of dirt with the engine swap as the inner cv joints have to be pulled out of the diff. Fluid should be changed again.

And the Inverter fluid as that will give you a good boost in your mileage.

Make sure tire pressure is 42f & 40r.

Might be real cold where you live don't know as you didn't fill out your locale.

Then baseline the car. Find a nice straight flat hiway for about 5 miles. Get the car up to 55 mph's and put the cruise control on. Turn off ac or heat. After 3-5 miles the mfd should show at least 50 mpg's.
I would change the trans fluid and the Inverter fluid. Both are easy.

    The trans becasue

Bosch makes a horrible spark plug.

It usually takes the car's ECU awhile to relearn your driving habits after the 12v battery has been disconnected for over 1/2 hour. How many miles have you driven since the replacement engine was installed? I wouldn't worry about anything, especially since you don't have any trouble codes. The winter blend of gasoline doesn't help with mpg's this time of year either. Congrats on the new engine.

As others have said, I don't think you need to worry about anything at this stage.

Wait until you have used another couple of tanks and work out your MPG by dividing the miles travelled on each tank by the gas put in. If it is still in the low 30's rather than higher (late 40's+), then maybe you can look into it further.

    All the best.

right, but how about the rest of the car? there are a lot more things that affect mpg's besides the engine.

Any change in your mpg? When it's cold, the engines on Prii tend to run a lot more often than when the weather is warm. If you have the heating on full blast, that will definitely affect the mpg. Also, the colder it is, and the shorter the journeys, the lesser the mpg count. You more than likely know this already. Of course, it could just be the ECU busy recalibrating itself, what with the new engine transplant. Remember to factor a brief stop - and wait for the engine to cut out once the vehicle has warmed up when just starting out from cold. Apparently, this aids the Prius in running in a more economic manner - as they say, in S4 mode, or something.

Gurl, what I would DO to live in a place that I could complain 37 degrees is "cold":LOL:. Seriously, when its in the 30's here, I wear my light jacket instead of my winter coat, thick enough for an Eskimo..ha

It's been anywhere from -5 to 10 degrees here and I'm somehow managing 45mpg. I don't know how but I.m thanking the Prius deity every day for it!! Lol

What caused the other engines demise? How many miles were on it. Where did you get the replacement engine? Did it come with the transaxle?
