Eibach Springs and KYB Struts REVIEW

    Hey f8l,

    Noob here to the forum. I recently installed Eibachs on my 05 and noticed over small bumps I hear a knocking noise as if the spring was moving. Do you hear any noise over bumps/dips? Thanks!

    I don't hear any noises except when backing up and stopping. I only heard the noise a couple of times and never again.

    I would double check all off the nuts and ensure they are tight. If you can pinpoint whether the noise is from the front or rear that would be helpful. My first thought is the nuts on the front strut tower. The one in the back is a PITA to reach unless you took the windshield shroud off. I didn't. :)

    It's deffintley from the front. Furthermore when I yank the steering wheel from center to the left and back( for example from 12 o'clock to 9 o'clock and back to 12 o'clock) I'll hear noise. it does seem like something might be loose any idea?

    Hmm, definitely check those upper nuts. I hope the spring was seated properly when they installed them. The spring perch has a raised bump in it that seats the spring and stops it from moving around.

    Don't continue to drive around without having this checked out. You can do some real damage or even cause an accident if the part fails. :(

    If you have a cell phone with a camera, point it the the upper strut mount. Let it record and you go in and turn the steering wheel. Watch the video with the sound. That surely helps if you don't have a second person to verify.

    Yes although the spring doesn't have anywhere to go other than the perch. Plus if it was not aligned it would pop back in after driving a bit.

    2 more things;
    - There might be a some play in between the strut and spring. That is what generally causes banging noises through bumps. It's very unlikely though since Eibach manufactures the size pretty accurately, unless you bought the wrong spring, which I doubt. Nor would play account for the noise you hear when turning the steering wheel.

    - I think it has to do with the nuts. Something is probably loose.

    Here is a silly video of my trying to hit corners while holding my cell phone to record. If you listen closely you can hear the front tires scrub the wheelwell. Disregard the clunking sound. It's my coffee cup that flew out of its holder after the first turn. lol

    VERY close. It was Mt. Vernon Rd. just east of Joeger. I was on my way to one of our Lincoln Preserves so I take the back roads. :)

    I'm sure you know those roads well. They are much fun in a Corvette! Especially Hwy 193!

    I would like to get video of driving Hwy 193. If I am not trying to hold the camera I can drive it much faster/cleaner. I was so busy trying to watch the screen to make sure I was filming the road that I was jerking the car around corners too much. lol

    Skyline is fun too. Back in the good old days we would do our Corvette cruise through the area. Those long sweeping turns cry for horsepower so I'll stick to my little curvy low speed roads. :p

    Here is more shaking. Man these springs made a HUGE difference in handling! It's a lot of fun until cars get in the way. Twice. Wait for the second video. lol

    Hey f8l has your gas mileage gotten worse. I fell like mine has. I was averaging 42mpg and I'm down to 38! Maybe because I have been driving more aggressively testing out the springs. How about you?

    My MPG is about the same as before the springs. If you have lost mileage then I would bet it is due to more aggressive driving. I know that on the tanks that are abnormally low it has been because I'm driving faster. :)

    My tires are to blame for my huge loss of MPG. I went from 50-52 on my commute to 42-43. I swapped out a great set of 15" LRR tires for my 17s and that always KILLS my mpg. lol
